Welcome to part one of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you play Gabriel Seth?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • Sons of Sanguinius or Gladius Task Force?
  • What unit is he leading, if any?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What deployment options are you using?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

I mean he's a giant beatstick and arguably one of the most effective BA characters at the moment (along with Tycho probably). One of the few damage 3 melee weapons available to SM outside Dreads and Centurions?

Probably more effective in SoS (even if its overall less effective Gladius overall) to add even more attacks and make him S9 in melee, and he has advance and charge built in which is basically assault doctrine in gladius.

Plus then against any 5 or 10 man unit he is getting extra attacks because of 'Whirlwind of Gore', so with SoS, against 10 infantry he could have as many as 9 attacks. BUT he then has sustained hits, so likely even with bad rolls, you are going to roll an extra hit from 9 attacks, if not two.

If you pair him with Vanguard Vets then they give the unit Lethal Hits, so you now have 6s giving extra hits and auto wounds.

Then if you add a Sanguinary Priest, that is a 5+ FNP for a bit more survivability, but also +1 AP, so Seth's Blood Reaver now goes to 7-11 attacks, S9, Sustained hits 1, Lethal Hits, -3 AP and 3 damage.  He's doing A LOT of damage on his own.

With 5 Vanguard Vets, if you give them storm shields then thats 4+ invuls as well, and then 25 attacks at S6, with -2 AP and 1 damage. You could also add things like Red Rampage for +1 to wound or Oaths for wound re-rolls etc.  Plus the 6A S5 AP -2, 1 damage from the Sanguinary Priest as well.

It's 330 points, so fairly expensive for 7 models but I think if you get them into melee and charges they will do that point cost in damage fairly well.
