Newbie question on Devastating Wounds

Hi everyone, I’m a new player and have got a question about devastating wounds.

The rules state: Weapons with [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] in their profile are known as Devastating Wounds weapons. Each time an attack is made with such a weapon, a Critical Wound inflicts a number of mortal wounds on the target equal to the Damage characteristic of that weapon and the attack sequence ends.

So my question is, what happens wounds that succeeded but didn’t roll a 6.

For example:

My Broodlord attacks with its 5 attacks.

It rolls: 4, 5, 1, 6 and 4 on its ‘To hit’ rolls. With its WS of 2, it scores four hits.

It is attacking a SM Terminator with toughness 5, so requires 4s to sound.

It rolls: 4, 1 (which it rerolls to a 4 with twin-linked), a 5 and a 6 on its ‘to wound’ rolls.

The 6 creates two mortal wounds on the terminator, because the Broodlord has a damage characteristic of 2.

But what happens to the other three successful ‘to wound’ rolls (the 4, 4 and 5)? Does the terminator still make a saving throw of 4+ (because of AP -2), or are these other successful wounds discarded, because you created a mortal wound?

The attack sequence only ends for the specific Wound rolls of 6 - so in your example the rolls of 4-4-5 will all require saving throws, then any unsaved wounds will have their damage applied, then the mortal wounds will be applied.

Thank you! That’s what I thought, but the whole ‘attack sequence ends’ made me second-guess myself. Thank you very much!

This is tricky with GW's new wording. Technically, you're supposed to roll one dice at a time, a single dice to hit, to wound, then save, one at a time.

A single dice roll is a single attack, so when it says 'the attack sequence ends' it means that for that single attack pathway (hit, wound, save) you just stop rolling and do 2 auto mortals.
