Father Mehman
Hello, fellow Guardsmen! It's been literal years, but it seems I'm back to the fold. While away from our glorious Imperial Guard, I heard we got new (and cut) additions; eg, new commander, no more Special Weapons Squads, a guy on horseback. Most of these are obvious in how they fit into Regiment Organization, but there are two new additions that confuses me: the Field Ordnance Battery and the Kasrkin. I'll preface this by saying I do not have the 9th Ed Codex. If the background for both the Field Ordnance Batteries and Kasrkin Companies is worth it, let me know. Also, this is a background question. I have an exhaustive spreadsheet for a whole Regiment and I'd like to include both of these elements. The Kasrkin seem obvious enough as they'll be ordered as a normal Company. (Or maybe not. Please correct me if they have a different organization.) The Field Ordnance Batteries... I have no idea how the Battery is structured. They don't seem to fit in Infantry, and they definitely don't fit as Vehicles, so what is their placement within the Regimental Organization? Can anyone help me out? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/380131-field-ordnance-battery-and-kasrkin-in-regiment-organization/ Share on other sites
Father Mehman
Strange they didn’t have an updated TO&E in the 9th Ed Codex. That saves me money on an outdated book. Thanks! Inquisitor_Lensoven
Field ordnance batteries are just artillery, they fit into the regimental structure where ever the regiment’s artillery fits into it. kasrkin I don’t think they’ve updated the lore around them much if any. They’re either in their own completely separate formations in the same way SEALs have their own formations. if not their own formations then they probably have roughly one platoon per company. You just kind of pick what you want so long as you don’t take more than 3 non-battle line datasheets. As far as a fluff point of view, I don’t think there’s an official layout of the new stuff in a TO&E structure. I don’t recall that being in the 9th edition codex and there isn’t a 10th edition one out yet. Id go on a limb and say both Kasrkin and the FOBs would be assigned to an infantry or armor regiment/company from a separate unit. For instance, a Field ordinance battery would be taken from a dedicated artillery unit and attached to whatever force needed it. Could also be possible that your regiment has a dedicated support platoon that would include heavier guns with it. tl;dr I don’t know if there is an actual official chart showing current IG organization following the new 9th edition releases. They’ve rewritten the lore rules around regimental make up. now that combined arms regiments are a thing it opens up the options in how we build our regiments. They kind of updated it, in a very general manner. previously regiments were mono-role, infantry, armored, artillery, etc. now they’ve canonized mixed regiments. they haven’t given a template for how those mixed regiments look or are built. a regiment could be almost anything now.
