With the transition of this category from being solely about the Warhammer 40,000: The Horus Heresy game to being about the entire Horus Heresy setting, with this forum covering the lore and setting while each of the three games is covered in their own forums, it's time to start disciplining the system. I went through the first 15 pages of topics in this forum (which used to be about the Warhammer 40,000: The Horus Heresy game) and moved those that were about that game into the forum for that game. The first 15 pages covers about two years of discussion. Topics on the first 15 pages that were lore/setting were left. I may have gotten some wrong one way or the other, in which case we'll fix their location as we identify them. You can also expect us to go through the remaining 250+ pages of topics and move those that need to be moved (any that move to the front page due to replies will be noticed first, of course). The links to the new locations should disappear in three days, leaving only lore/setting discussions as well as discussions that are over two years old and which are similarly subject to being moved as appropriate. The movement of topics will be slow, based on the availability of staff (this is a very low priority task).

What we should see is that topics in this forum are about the lore/setting, not being specific to any particular game within the setting; and topics in the game forums will be specific to those games (more likely rules-based).

The game forums are named for the games, as Games Workshop has named them and as commonly understood by their branding (i.e., the logo for each game as it appears on the products for the game). Yes, the rulebook says "Age of Darkness" at the bottom, but all of the products say "Warhammer: The Horus Heresy" at the top.

We shortened the names of the other two game forums for similar reasons.

The formal name of the game about big stompy robots is "Adeptus Titanicus: The Horus Heresy" as seen on the starter box.

Since "Adeptus Titanicus" is how the game is commonly referenced, "The Horus Heresy" might be confused with the main game, and at least some of the products (the cards) omit the "The Horus Heresy" portion of the logo, we figured the shorter name would provide more clarity.

Similarly, while the formal name of the new Epic-scale game in the Horus Heresy setting is "Warhammer: The Horus Heresy - Legions Imperialis" (as evidenced by the box), that's a ponderously long name for a forum. More importantly, Games Workshop continually refers to the game as "Legions Imperialis" in its Warhammer Community posts. So going by the shorter name is more likely to provide clarity.

The naming convention you suggested was what we did previously when this category solely covered the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy game. With the expansion to include the other games, and based on the reasons described above, the "Age of Darkness" name for the game forum no longer worked as it lacked clarity. While all three games are set during the Horus Heresy, most people don't think of any of the games as having that name. Despite that name appearing at the bottom of the rulebook, the game is clearly called "Warhammer: The Horus Heresy" (and we kept the "Warhammer" portion because that made it clear that we were talking about the game that uses the Warhammer 40,000 scale). Yes, the Warhammer Community articles also use the "Warhammer: The Horus Heresy" logo in the masthead at the tops of the articles that cover all three game systems (I wish they would find some other logo to encompass the setting). For the common player, though, the names we've used for the game forums are the most clear. So we applied the "Age of Darkness" name to the lore/setting forum that covers all three games.

This all makes sense. But please @Brother Tyler could we have the ‘30k Hobby Chat’ back in the main headline Age of Darkness forum? Sure most of it was 28mm scale but @Pacific81  used to post his 6mm stuff and we talk about lore as well. If this means we get more Titanicus in the chat too then I for one am happy with that, although that does tend to go in “Today in Titanicus …” . Thanks for considering

I only just realised (when I went to see where the 30k Hobby Chat had moved to) that Warhammer - The Horus Heresy was a forum. I assumed it was just a heading binding together the +Rules+, +Tactica+ and +Army Lists+ forums. I feel like a right plonker now and will visit it more.

Age of Darkness remains the name of the game though, (And has been previously too)  whilst as a historical period its only the middle of the heresy period, leaving out specifically Istvaan and earlier and the whole Siege of Terra, which i dont think is the intent? It feels like the top general forum should be called Horus Heresy General or background and the Age of Darkness game section identified as such.

I understand that you are using the common name, but thats just a holdover really from when the period only had one game but its going to be increasingly inaccurate as GW keeps expanding the IP to more and more games, which feels increasingly likely given the huge number of corners it lets them cut, like, are we going to change the LI forum name to Epic if that takes over as the common name for the game much as it has for the previous editions (Unless discussion the editions specifically)

Its just needlessly confusing, as shown by others in the thread already.

I don’t think either me or @Cactusare  confused by the name ‘Age of Darkness’ as the blanket term for Heresy Era games and background, it’s just we weren’t quite sure of the new structure where some subfolders have both sub-subfolders and threads (not that I have a problem with that either, I’d just like easier access to the most common thread).
