WAdams2152
Do people tend to ‘ard cost the chitin on their models? Can’t decide whether to risk it our not Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/380816-%E2%80%98ard-coat/ Share on other sites
Orion
Do you like the look? Mine have matte chitin, but gloss can look great. Also I'm not sure it's that big of a risk. You can always use matte varnish over the top. I use an all over gloss varnish before decals/washes etc on all my armies. Then use matte afterwards. Go with thin coats. Also hairdryers can really speed up removing the tackyness. Just go easy on resin minis if you're using it. It's not a huge deal if you have to bend something back into position, but of course you want to avoid it. Brother Nathan
i dont.. my nids have generally got paint topped up every so often(the white greys and fresh white touch ups have helped with the highlighting damaged ares- ie gave the depth. but ive seen quite a few really well done schemes.... primarily xenomorph/alien styles where it really adds to it. plus paint protection. just remember it make s photos much more difficult so it that s a thing for you matt... Xenith
What is your concern with ard coat? Is it the specifc GW gloss, or varnish in general? As has been said, you can go over it with a matte varnish or lahmian medium if you decide you dont like it to make it matte again. WAdams2152
Sorry I didn’t explain clearly enough. I always use non-gloss protector (purity seal etc) and save ‘ard coat for things like ice etc. Just not sure if it’ll add to or take away from the model. I’m going to try it on one and see, I think… Thanks for all the replies! WAdams2152
Don’t know what I was worried about - I personally think the gloss finish on the plates really adds something. Thanks everyone!
