I highly recommend them!

I still like my old school Masterson's cheap white box palette, but I like the Redgrass one better. Now their painting handle, oof, no comparison to what GW offers. The Redgrass handle is far, far superior, and here in the US it was only $15 thru Amazon.

So anyways just sharing some hobby tool info. If you're thinking you want to upgrade your wet palette or your painting handle, I recommend both.

Cheers!

Personly i prefer the Rathcore Handles, they are expensive but i prefer the wooden handle over plastic for longer Sessions.

Good to hear you're enjoying your new purchases

Is there anything in particular about them that makes you prefer them to what you had previously? I have the old "painter" wet palette and quite like it, but it is also my first wet palette ...

The Redgrass palette is larger and has more wet palette space, is lower profile, and is easier for the lid to go on and off and it has a rubber ring around the inside of the lip, so it truly seals well. I also prefer their "sponge" and its easier to make sure I have the right water amount versus my old trusty Masterson.

The paint handle has a better grip, the cap/top rotates, I prefer the sticky tack mounting to the GW clamps especially on the newer thin handled GW ones, their clamps are pretty weak.  I also really love the magnetic base you can apply to your hobby surface and the RG handle will "lock" right to it when you sit it down so it won't fall over. For the very small price difference between the two, the Redgras Games handle kills the GW one. Leaps and bounds ahead.

How is the new Redgrass palette regarding mould buildup? I've got the mk1 version of the Redgrass palette and I am finding mould buildup to be a very real consideration now. I also hear they changed the sheets that are placed over the "sponge" surface. I hope they are better. I stocked up on the original sheets and apart from the mould buildup I find they disintegrate every time I try to change them. Perhaps I should remove and replace the sheets for the next painting session. Regardless, the sheets don't retain moisture as well as the home-made wet palette I used.

Hopefully I'd have better luck with the new revision, the old Redgrass palette has served me well over time but I am curious about the difference between the old and new versions.

According to Red Grass Games, the sheets for the "Mk2" wet palette are supposed to be re-usable, whereas the sheets for the "Mk1" wet palette are supposed to be disposable.

(I can't say whether there's any difference in mould resistance, as I only have the "Mk1" model)

Yeah, I heard that too, I was hoping we would get some feedback on them. :)

You will Always have to consider mould If you use some sort of sponges.

I replaced the sponge with paper kitchen towelsand replace them every new Session for that reason.

I wash my wet palette out with some dish soap periodically, usually the same with the sponge, and then I let them dry completely.

I suppose it takes a while for it to start happening. I used to use my palette for a while before I noticed it. I have allowed mine to dry out now, I'll give it another clean before I return it to service. Thanks for the advice. I've heard about people putting pennies into the palette but I haven't tried that yet.

The reason for that is that some coins contain copper, which has anti-microbial properties (probably worth checking the composition of any coins you want to use, as it does change over time). I'm pretty sure you could also use copper wire.

I've only had mould issues once, and that was where I thought I'd emptied the wet palette (but hadn't) and left it for 3 months - I'm pretty sure it was its' own life form ...

I've always used a little bleach soak every so often to kill mold buildup or anything like that.

I'm really liking it!

I like mine well enough.  I do have a little mold from time to time.

I like the bleach soak idea.  What dilution (guesstimate) do you use when you do it?

I've never had mold issues with either of my gen 1 or 2 so far. And I've forgotten them with water inside for months at a time. I do try and clean them with soap every so often.

But yes, if you do get mold you will need to make sure all of it, including spores, is fully dead and gone or you will just get another outbreak later.

My gen 1 didnt seal correctly, so dried out quite quickly which was very annoying, but gen 2 is a lot better. I fully agree on the handle, it's the best one I've gotten my hands on so far and I regret not adding more than 1 to my pledge.

I just drop maybe 1/5 of a teaspoon into it and fill the rest of it with water. Give it a gentle shake or two and then let it sit for a few hours.
