I need help preparing for my first WH event!

The local club is having a WH event and I was going to go along with my mates who want to try. The thing is, this was kind of on short notice and I don't have enough time to get everything ready. I only have my chaos start collecting patrol and my Necron half of the command box set. So I've got the rules slim version and two very small armies. Is there any way I can get the codex rules for my szarekhan necrons and alpha legion before the event this weekend? I ordered the chaos codex but I don't think it'll arrive in time.

 

Also, is there a good way to learn the rules fast?

Based on what you’re describing it sounds like you’re looking at the rules and codex for 9th edition, not the current 10th edition. Chaos Marines and Necrons don’t have a codex yet in this edition so you may have ordered an old codex that is no longer valid. Only tyranids and loyalist marines have a codex so far this edition. If the slim rulebook you mention is the one from the command box that had necrons in then it’s from last edition. The current starter boxes are all Space Marine Vs Tyranids.

 

Luckily, GW transitioned to free online rules for the game and free online indexes for the army rules until your codex comes out so not having a current codex yet actually works to your advantage here.

As for learning the rules quickly, this edition is simplified compared to the previous one but it’s still a lot to take in with just one week so just explain to people at the event that you’re new to the rules etc and I’m sure they’ll help you out.

Thanks very much! My mates are using the 9th edition books too so it should be ok. Of course if the Alpha Legion get buffed in the 10th, I might change

If it’s an official event it might be worth checking with the organisers, they normally expect everyone to use the latest rules.
