Captain Idaho
Evening all... So a friend is printing stuff for us to use alongside official releases (2027 now?) so I thought I'd make this post to give him some more accuracy in his endeavours by seeking guidance from peers... How big are you 3D printing your models for Legions Imperialis? I think he's done some Terminators and MK4 Marines as 9mm scale (Terminators slightly bigger?) and Rhinos about 10mm from top to bottom etc, but it's tough giving him guidance. What are folk resolving to do? I'm the kind of person who will mix and match his free stuff alongside mum's presents from GW direct etc, so a large disparity in scape is problematic. My friend similarly wants a free army but he's still keen on adding official models so they can't be too disparte to him either. Pics are also appreciated. Pacific81
I think if you aim for about 8.5 to 9mm for a standard marine you will probably be pretty close. Someone did try and calculate the Legions Imperialis marines in the epic community, using the Titan base (as those have known dimensions) in photos as a guide and extrapolating using geometry (you've got to love the internet :) ) and it came out about that size. If you buy 'orbital Knights' from Etsy they are generally about that size, with Vanguard's range a little smaller (perhaps 0.5 to 1mm difference) I will say if you are within a mm or two it will be impossible to notice the difference on the tabletop. I have a mix of GW classics, which are true 6mm, vanguard and new larger 3d prints - as long as you don't mount them on the same base, you really won't notice the difference. Xenith
I recall that AT was rescaled from he original 6mm to 8mm, so the 28mm model is reduced by 3.5 times to get to 8mm, so divide all 28mm scale models by 3.5 to get the new AT/LI scale? vadersson
I think I will wait until I get some new minis in hand before printing any terrain. Then I can do a more direct comparison and also maybe get a good feel for how the minis look and what shape and style or terrain works best. Everyone seems to talk about 3D printing old epic minis. Where are people finding these files? I checked out thingieverse and some other sites and through I see some stuff, I am not really seeing a ton of stuff. Just curious in case I want to expand beyond LI. apologist
For what it's worth, here's my analysis – but note that it's all purely based on visuals. Pacific81
That lines up with Ian Wood's analysis, which was between 9-10mm for the height of a marine Captain Idaho 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/380930-3d-printed-items-and-size/#findComment-6002161 Share on other sites
twopounder
I printed a bunch before LI was announced. Waiting to see how the new models are sized before going any further. Also, the bases are completely different, so I'll need to print custom bases. Below has references for measurements. Pacific81
Bearing in mind that the GW Warcomms said the new game will be base agnostic, in one of the early Q&As, so following on from Armageddon's lead. Great news as I sure as hell ain't rebasing hundreds of my infantry stands Captain Idaho and Noserenda 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/380930-3d-printed-items-and-size/#findComment-6002278 Share on other sites
