So since I am waiting for my Vanguard stuff to arrive, I may as well theory craft other stuff and Flamestorm right now seems like everyone else is playing with and I just can't find the juice I would want with it (and to be honest, another frater is out there doing the Emperor's work with his triple Redeemer 30 infernus marines list and to you: Burn and Purge until it is done!).

So I decided to look at the awkward child that is Anvil. So lets show what I have put together for 2k points and see what you guys think.

Raven Guard Chapter choice (spicy)

Kayvaan Shrike 100 points

Captain in Gravis Armour 100pts (Warlord)

Indomitable Fury, Boltstorm Gauntlet with Relic fist

Captain in Gravis Armour 105pts

Artitect of War, Boltstorm Gauntlet with Relic fist

Apothecary Biologis 70pts

Stoic Defender

Apothecary Biologis 55pts

3x Librarian in Phobos Armour 210pts (70 each)

Lieutenant with Combi-weapon 70pts

2x 10-Man Heavy Intercessor Squads 420pts (210 each)

2 Heavy Bolters each

2x Desolation Squads 400pts (200 each)

both with Vengor Launchers and 4x Super-Kraks

3x Eliminator Squads 225pts (75 each)

3 Las-Fusils in each

2x Scout Squads 110pts (55 each)

Shotgun on Sergeant, Sniper Rifle and Heavy Bolter. Same for Both squads

Callidus Assassin 90pts

Inquisitoral Henchmen 40pts

Plasma Pistol and Evisarator

To be frank, I am honestly surprised how much I could just keep putting into this list.

So just to get attachments in order: Warlord Captain and Stoic Biologis go together in one Heavy Intercessor Squad, the other two fatty HQs go in the other. Each Eliminator Squad gets their own Phobos Librarian.

So the fatty squads are intended to kind of just march into the centre of the board and if possible share the centre objective, however if I can only get one unit in there or would rather lean elsewhere, the Warlord squad will be the one to get it. They are meant to just sit on that objective and be fat annoyances. T6, 3 wounds and with a +1 to their save if you shoot them with anything damage 1 should draw flak for at least a turn or so. Worst case, front squad gets hosed then second squad can follow up with supporting fire.

Fire support comes in the form of 3 Las-Fusil Elims that all have lone-op from librarians so should be quite obnoxious to get shots on while also getting all the benefits from standing still. Desolation Squads are present because having their Indirect Fire is a major boon for clearing chaff and due to their inherent stationary boost, they like having heavy on their Castellan Launchers while if they get a chance to target harder targets while static could punch up quite well.

So now onto the thing I think people are looking at: raven guard with Shrike doing siege.

We have a Callidus, Shrike and 2 scout squads doing some cardio and forming the objective clean-up crew. Investigate Signals, better cover those corners, Behind enemy Lines? Engage. Deploy. This rather compact package allows me to lift 4 units from the table each turn and reposition wherever I need them each turn. Scouts will naturally be more inclined to hop around in my own deployment, regularly just returning to my own corners but if given a chance may join Shrike or the Callidus for disruption. Again, each turn I am picking up 4 units that you will need to screen pretty intensely for, Shrike and Callidus with Deep Strike and being single models means any gaps could let me get objectives, and they are aided by the fact the Desolators could help clear out chaff on the side.

The Lieutenant further enhances any skirmishes I have on the centre point with close-range issues and pairs nicely with the Henchmen as homefield objective holders and possble homeguard against other deep strike fodder. Are they hard hitting? Nope. But they get points like the 4 unit re-deploy package, and points win games.

Again, its more theory but hey it looks fun and I think Heavy Intercessors are neat. They are 2OC each so do need removed and throwing chaff at them in melee to try and contest won't cut it as that then gives the Biologis his boost (who himself is 3OC by default).

Thoughts and for all those Imperial Fist players, sorry not sorry. Garadon don't give rites of war!

Then I will swap the fists out for swords, may as well as those captains are there for punching power and free Battle Tactics.

The two stratagems to use with captains are "No Threat too Great" for getting re-roll wounds against monsters, mainly for Intercessors to use in combo with "Battle Drill Recall", using Oath.

As for Whirlwinds, considered but right now imo if I wanted to use whirlwinds I would be better doing that in Ironstorm with the Lethal Hit Techmarine. Another advantage of the Desolation squads is being able to just sit them in back corners of the map to area deny, but also able to freely move through terrain when needed to get Direct Lines on targets. Also their ability does work with Anvil nicely so that does help. Yea, they aren't cheap to deploy at 200 points but their role is more backfield area deny while putting in work clearing chaff units that get in range of the missiles.

It is certainly a goofy looking list but boredom does things.
