Agressors loadout

Hello brothers,

I'm probably gonna take 3 to 6 aggressors so I have 3 questions:

- does the kit offer the opportunity to magnetize either option or is it too complex ?

- what loadout would you advise ?

- I'm probably gonna play firestorm because "assault" everywhere, but is the flamestorm gauntlet option mandatory with this detachment ?

(With a regular LR, I can't fit the 6 of them and a captain/biologis in it )

Thanks

May Dorn watch over you

Broadly speaking, Boltstorm is better. Combine with an Apothecary Biologis for Lethal Hits (and Fire Discipline if you can). Add a Captain for extra muscle, stick the whole package in a LandRaider Crusader and away you go. Pricey but it hits like a ton of bricks.

The exception is if you are running a Firestorm detachment. Here you can take Flamers and drop the Apothecary as your shooting is now S5 and your Captain can grant free access to Immolation Protocols with those lovely Devastating Wounds. It is a bit of a 1-trick pony but it is a good enough trick to be worth building around. On average that squad will dish out 5 MWs every time it fires plus an extra 20-ish S5 hits.

Aggressors are a bit fiddly to magnetize but it is worth a go IMHO. The biggest difference between the 2 flavours of Aggressors are the fragstorm launchers so at a pinch, you can just magnetise those so indicate which loadout you are running. That is the approach I am taking anyway.

Do you really require the unit to be accompanied by a character? In Gladius perhaps yes, but not necessarily in every other detachment.

All the weapons are twin-linked, and although a free stratagem would be useful, it can also be applied elsewhere whilst you pay for it's use on the Aggressor unit.

If they are deployed in a Landraider, it's possible they won't see combat until turn 2.

In a vacuum, the Boltstorm-Aggressors are the best choice 99% of the time, mainly because they get an additional weapon that (for reasons unknown to anyone but GW) the Flamestorm-Aggressors dont: The Fragstorm Grenadelauncher, which when adding layers of buffs like Close-Quarters Firepower (their own rule), Lethal Hits (Biologis) and various enhancements (Fire Discipline from Gladius in particular), can actually turn this "bonus weapon" into a bigger threat than their actual main gun.
I'd say they "require" a Biologis at the very least however, to achieve their top potential.

The only time I'd recommend the Flamestorm-Aggressors is in the apropos named Firestorm detachment.
Assault and +1 Str are both buffs that fit them perfectly.
Their torrent-weapons being Twin-Linked also synergizes amazingly well with the Immolation Protocols-stratagem.
While they don't "require" character-support in the same way as their Boltstorm-brethren does, a Gravis Captain is a nice investment both due to the free strat (read: free Immolation Protocols) and the ability to use this strat more than once. It also gives you ability to pick an Enhancement in the unit, and both Forged in Battle and Champion of Humanity are solid picks.

Note: Grenade Launchers aren't TL, and even if TL, the Boltstorm being S4 will struggle against a lot of targets.
I'd say a Biologis is more or less "mandatory" if running 6 Boltstorm-Aggressors: It's such a force multiplier that it's almost folly not to take one, especially in Gladius where it gives you someone who can carry the equally "mandatory" Fire Discipline.
The Captain on the other hand is "nice to have" in a Gladius, but by no means as crucial I'd say.

I am simply assuming that @Tonius will be using the Flame variant as he expressed an interest in the Flamestorm detachment.

In this particular detachment, you can run Flamer Aggressors without a character and get strong performance from them, and all their weapons would be Twin-Linked.

I also got the impression that the topic creator might not own a variant of Landraider other than the standard one. I wouldn't go out of my way to get a Crusader or Redeemer just to unlock better stratagem efficiency for one particular unit.

If the detachment or transport options aren't fixed, then the unit will need more consideration.
