Was just wondering if the brothers here were to rate the detachments in order or power/usefulness including ours, at the moment what would that list look like?

I think the Vanguard, fire storm, iron storm, and Gladius can all be pretty equally

potent with the right list in the right hands.

 

storm Lance would be horrifying with space wolves, and to a lesser extent dark angels, but nobody else. It takes spot number five for me. 
 

The other two… Let's just say I'm not very impressed with either one of them.

Is this for Blood Angels specifically because this topic is in the BA-subforum?

If it's for Space Marines in general, could a mod please move it to the general Adeptus Astartes-subforum?
I'd be curious about peoples opinions on this as well, but since it's "hidden" in the BA-subforum, alot of people will probably miss or discard the topic. 

Whilst I can't speak for the OP, I believe it's for the BA Faction as it has the Sons of Sanguinius Detachment ranked. Have edited the title to reflect this.

I would also put Stormlance further down the list as it has speed but not much else. Also many of its stratagems and enhancements are locked to Mounted units which the main Astartes line is fairly short of.

 

Are you ranking the Detachments overall or specifically how they interact with our special units (since that is arguably what defines a Blood Angels army)?

My assumptions prior to ranking would be the inclusion of BA specific units and themes - so, a focus/penchant for Close Combat and close range support. and inclusion of DC/Libby Dread/Baal etc.

 

With this in mind, I've ranked the detachments based on how these units synergize with the addition of BA units/themes rather than the power of the detachment themselves.

 

I'd rate this way:

Vanguard

SoS - Stormlance

The access to a tool box of options in the Gladius is still, in my mind, the gold standard.  So much so, in fact, that it's my greatest worry that if/when we get a codex, we will lose this.  Gladius is still an exceptionally good way to play BA as it plays into our lore of being "largely codex adherent" and it's tactical flexibility is was puts it above Firestorm for me. 

 

Firestorm is a close, close second- almost on a par, on account of how well it synergizes with close range support.  Our access to flamers is greater than other divergent chapters (Baal/DC) and this alone helps the detachment.  The fluffy transport strats work well with BA too. 

 

Vanguard, as noted, offers some speed and allows a shooty/counter style.  We have little to no damage buffs when we get there, so, a mixed list of fighting/shooting is really needed, imo.

 

SoS - smack in the middle only because the +1 attack and +1 strength, still offer some really good fighting potential if we lean into things that way.  The use of Red Rampage also allows for some solid damage

 

Stormlance - on a par with SoS simply because there are no damage buffs.  It's great for getting into combat, but there's nothing to boost this. So, without extra attacks/or wound options, all that advance and charge is ....meh. 

 

1st Co - Terms and BGV and Vanguard are actually all BA themey.  While this is generally considered the weaker of the new detachments, it plays nicely into BA style and theme and has some tricks in terms of mobility and with old oath also has a turn of some serious damage. 

 

Ironstorm is a questionable one, and is so much lower down on the list simply because the detachment builds itself without cause for concern with BA or BA specific units.  There's little to no reason to include our speciality units and the (crazy good) strength of this detachment comes from the core SM units. 

 

Anvil - stand still, why? 

1st company had to be a list built for it. 

 

I run 10 tactical terminators and two 5x assault terminators as the main infantry in my list, the rest being mech. 

 

Sticky objective are great and the re-deep strike mitigates their slow movement. 

 

Nothing like the opposing player dumping 1500 points of shooting, and you reducing all damage by 1 or AP by 1, whichever helps most, and there still being 2/5 Terminators on an objective. Putting a captain in one of the two units really helps as then you can use the same one twice if they decide to switch targets.

This is my current WIP list for the 1st company. I should probably drop the aggressors for something else but I am a sucker for that stupid lil combo of aggressors + Biologis + captain, even without the enhancement that makes it pure nutty from GSF.  Chaplain with the assault terminators, librarian with the shooting squad.
