Firestorm Detachment Question w/ Actions

So I'm gonna try out the Firestorm Detachment with my Space Wolves, but I had a question concerning it with actions. If I take a unit with no ranged weapons, could I advance and still perform an action with that unit or would I need to have at least one ranged weapon in the unit? I want to say the unit would need at least one ranged weapon for Firestorm to add Assault to for it to perform an action, but I'm unsure.

RAW, I think that the unit would need to include a weapon to gain Assault and thus be eligible to "give up its shooting". This is kinda weird and edge-casey as there are not many units with no shooting attacks but there are a few. What unit(s) did you have in mind?

From what I understand you just need to eligible to shoot if you had a gun to perform the action.

Agreed. The tricky point is that Firestorm does not allow units to Advance and Shoot, it gives their guns the Assault rule. If they do not have guns, there is nothing to give the Assault Keyword to. This is a bit of an unusual case and I think GW probably forgot about it.

As per the commentary, a unit with no ranged weapons is still eligible to shoot, unless it advanced or fell back that turn (or is locked in combat).

A unit with at least one Assault weapon remains eligible to shoot even after it advances.

So you'd need to have at least one model with a ranged weapon to gain the Assault rule in order to allow the unit to be eligible to shoot after an advance move.
