Mandrakes makes it a pretty much instant buy for me, but very curious to see what the Night Lords team would look like. Upgrade sprue to the Legionaries kit would be odd as there is already a Legionaries team in KT, so you'd think it would have to be something else because I can't see them duplicating the same team just with a different sprue of cosmetic upgrades. Maybe Chosen? The big weapon variety on that kit would lend itself quite well to Kill Team.

It's Night Lords.

If any current CSM unit is getting a Night Lords upgrade sprue, it's gonna be Raptors.

I really think its raptors.. and also possibly as much nightlords as the scout team is ravenguard ; the paintjob.

Some of valraks rumor sources ( and definitely those for killteam.) seem to be in the boxing part of the industry, at wich point the nightlord element is likely a paintjob focus

when building on the rumors and keeping it as close to possible to previous killteam releases, it would look something like this ;

(autumn)   Blades of Khaine I (2x5 new scorpions) vs Ravenguard Scouts

(winter)      Nightlord Raptors (upgrade sprue ) vs Aelindrach nightmares (mandrakes, but maybe other stuff like shaderavens too.)

(spring)      Vespids vs ??? possibly in this video rumored jumppack guard ( cadian upgrade sprue)

(summer)   Blades of Khaine II ( 5 Swooping hawks+5 Fire dragons or Warpspiders) vs ??? possibly Admech upgrade sprue based killteam. (not a rumor, but makes sense with the narrative.. however KT isnt that strong on narrative teams in the end so this could be anything.)

The values dont really measure up though, but that is generally not consistent anyway. I could see the last one doing a 360 and Blades of Khaine II being swooping hawks + dire avengers, with the opposing side also being a new kit plus an old kit turned into a kill team, so still honoring the half the box is new element while spreading that between teams. possibly forgoing upgrade sprues entirely.

If they make First claw then they'd can just contact my bank directly and take the money out themselves.

What if it's not First Claw, but instead some of the Bleeding Eyes?

The first strike in a Dark Eldar range refresh?

I must admit I hope they don't get one yet, for their sake - once they're updated they'll be single pose, and the current sculpts are nice and detailed. The main exception being covers obviously

They desparately need it though. Half their range in unavailable to buy.

You can't even realistically start a DE army at the moment.

Mandrakes, Grotesques, Urien Rakarth, Beastmaster with Beasts and Court of the Archon all still need porting over from Finecast and that would be enough to be considered a range refresh, IMO.

They don't really work in Kill Team though, or rather the game of Kill Team would need to be altered/expanded to accommodate them. Not saying it can't be done but you would think they would do that in the first set of the new season, not partway through.

Edit: Also, Raptors probably need a full do-over to bring them into scale with the CSM models released since Shadowspear, rather than just an upgrade kit.

The existing plastic range is still great (tho a new Archon would be welcome). I don't imagine anything other than the remaining finecast being replaced anytime soon.

Happy to hear new Mandrakes are en route, would love to see the Decapitator reappear with them this edition.

The Wracks are good. They could use some new basic Warriors though and Wytches.

They will be 14 years old by the time they might be updated. And they are showing their age.

I'm not sure new Wyches would improve things, and I'm thinking Warriors and Incubi are pretty freaking timeless. Sure they could cut some new parts/poses, but man if that reboot wasnt a 10/10.

Incubi are fairly new already, they came out when the plastic Howling Banshees did.

If they wanted to remake the 5th edition Archon in plastic I'm sure they'd make the cost of the mould back overnight.

It is impossible to improve upon this level of perfection.

Kabalite Warriors just got a Kill Team upgrade sprue earlier this year, that kit is likely going nowhere for the foreseeable future.

Didn't guard get an upgrade sprue for cadians and less than a year later a new kit?

To be fair the old cadians got an upgrade sprue summer 2021 , that wasnt even related to another game or other rules.. only for the kit to be replaced within two years. Its not necessarily something GW wouldnt do.

It's almost like they want you to buy it once, buy it twice as an upgrade, buy it thrice as a reboot.

TBH though I think Warriors will be left alone for KT, and Wyches given a refresh.

That's a good point and a choice by GW that is repeatedly baffling to me, and why I only said it was likely not retiring soon.

I do think they're not quite equivalent however, like you say, it wasn't related to another game. Hand of the Archon complicates matters in the overall odds of a compete replacement of the kit. I suppose the alternative is doing as Ork Boyz do, and having both kits coexist.

Edit: To bring this post slightly more on-topic though, while I'm skeptical about the possibility of a "Night Lords" Team and agree with the notion that it's probably a paintjob that's responsible for that, I am excited at the possibility of a Mandrake KT. I think they're very appropriate for the game, provided GW gives them a full suite of specialists and some ranged options which I don't believe would interfere with their lore, though I could be mistaken.

This is good news for me- just like I can get away with skipping the next KT box and just picking up the Scorpions, I can skip this box and just get the Mandrakes.

It's easier to sneak a unit into the budget than box.

Of course, if I want to field those models in KT, I'll either have to spring for the books or the annual when it comes.
