I may have been unclear - what I meant is that, for FW stuff specifically, the FLGS was able to act as a "GW store" for us and order at MSRP, take no earnings, just act as an intermediary between us and GW, ship FW to us locally. Because of the lack of GW stores in the country (only one, in the very middle of it), it was very convenient. The stuff got shipped to the FLGS as it would get shipped to the GW store I ordered it to and I could either pick it up or have them send a cheap parcel service.

Now, for clear or stated reason at all, GW removed that option from the FLGS. The FLGS would have to buy the item and the resell it, instead of being a non-selling intermediary / representative with their GW trade account, which imposes huge taxation on the customer.

Thats never been a thing in the EU at least.

Stores had to buy FW stuff like anyone else and most did an collective order as customer service when FW / GW didnt accept PayPal.

But that died out as customers could order themself without ownibg a Credit Card.

Literally was a thing at my FLGS until their Monday announcement. And Poland is quite in the EU.

Think your FLGS was the exception here @Kastor Krieg. I have 7 flgs around here and none of them had the option you describe for the past 12 years that I frequent them at least.

Best mine could do was organise collective orders so the free shipping threshold was achieved.

I had a quick chat with our FLGS yesterday (who in turn, got in contact with the GW rep) and nothing is changing. At least in the UK.

It does seem like this is a localised issue to Poland (at least, Krieg's FLGS), or it could be simply be the owner stirring the pot to garner sympathy. Doesn't really seem to be going anywhere, however.

My FLGS in the U.S. was never able to order FW for anyone at trade prices, and the only reason they ever did a consolidated order for a group of us was so that folks could avoid individual shipping.  They got charged full price plus tax for everything and we all just paid our portions to them, and then bought some more stuff from them so that it was at least worth it to the store.  My understanding is that Online Only was always the same way as well, or was similar - they were always reluctant to get it because it wasn’t really beneficial to them.

Doesn’t sound like anything changed in the last week - they can still do the same from my talk with the FLGS owner yesterday.

So, the sky is not, in fact, falling? Well that’s a surprise.

I seem to recall talking to my (then) local GW manager about Forge World and whether there was anything in it for them if I ordered FW stuff through the store. He said there was no financial benefit it didn’t even count towards their internal sales numbers. So, it would surprise me if non-GW stores could get it at severely reduced prices - and indeed, I’ve never encountered the option to buy FW at reduced prices through any (non-recast) store, physical or online.

It’s nice for Krieg that he has had this opportunity, but it seems like a rather unique situation. Too bad, because FW prices being what they are these days, I’m not going to even consider buying them without a discount.

Although, come to think of it, I guess you could argue that FW has become slightly more available, since now you only need to buy for 50GBP (or equivalent) to get free shipping, whereas it was 250 back in the day. Unless there’s some exception for FW stuff in their delivery terms that I’ve overlooked.

Still, I don’t see myself buying from them anytime soon.

Considering not even GW stores can order in FW it seems odd to expect independent stores to have greater access.

That is no longer the case:

Is the title of this thread not rather deceptive it talks of MTO but the issue seems to be with FW?

The original post is also not about FW but about "Mail Order" products (Which granted aren't MTO too, that stands for made to order which are limited time runs of older kits that are normally only available on the webstore)

Mail order products are everything from the original store that wasn't available in store normally but only in the webstore. Independent stores could still order them but at a higher trade price than the normal trade range so most stores I visit didn't bother with them.

This thread was about Independent stores no longer being able to even order them but it seems that isn't the case and it was just some "new website problems"?

Objection, they clarified that a new line of products from "Forge Word" is, maybe that's what Black Library is being renamed to! (I'm very sorry I just woke up and couldn't resist)

Since this appears to be a misunderstanding, this thread doesn't serve any purpose. As always, if that changes, feel free to report this post and we can reopen it if appropriate.
