hd3
I'm doing my off brand cargo containers for terrain and I wanted a container to belong to the valhallan 597th, ciaphas Cain's (un)lucky imperial guard regiment. To whit before I start painting, I was wondering can anyone suggest how to get to the shade of tan the guard troopers are wearing in the latest artwork? Bonus points if it's a citadel paint but any is fine. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381789-help-identifying-a-colour/ Share on other sites
Solution Firedrake Cordova Posted November 28, 2023 Solution Share Posted November 28, 2023 I think Baneblade Brown is probably the closest Citadel Paint, although I think maybe mix it with Rakarth Flesh to lighten it a bit? Otherwise, I think Vallejo Model Color Deck Tan might be reasonably close? andes
Was going to say Deck Tan + a Brownish Green wash (both AK, though I'm sure Vallejo would work just fine too) Bryan Blaire 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381789-help-identifying-a-colour/#findComment-6006131 Share on other sites

Brother Nihm
Looks like Krieg Khaki to me. :) MithrilForge and Karhedron 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381789-help-identifying-a-colour/#findComment-6006260 Share on other sites
MithrilForge
I Think Krieg Khaki would be suitable as well, I would go further and say a Wraithbone base would work here too... Cheers, M Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381789-help-identifying-a-colour/#findComment-6006376 Share on other sites
Karhedron
Colours are greatly affected by lighting and that picture is definitely moodily lit. I would take Kreig Khaki and go with "close enough is good enough ". Firedrake Cordova
Agreed Krieg Khaki looks like it could work well (for some reason, it's not under "browns" but "bones" on GW's site ) It is a layer paint, though, which suggests there may well be coverage issues if you were to use it as a base coat. It looks like Formula P3 Hammerfall Khaki is a similar colour (it looks a bit lighter and "browner"), and may work as a base (Formula P3 generally has pretty good coverage) MithrilForge 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381789-help-identifying-a-colour/#findComment-6006450 Share on other sites
Karhedron
If you want a paint with guaranteed coverage, Steel Legion Drab is actually a pretty close match. Maybe not quite as green but not too far off. Bryan Blaire
You could do a zenithal lighting for the containers with Steel Legion Drab as the base color, and then the Krieg Khaki as the lighting color from above. Could do a direct from above Deck Tan/Wraithbone/Titanium Buff final highlight as well, just to finish it off. All of which could be done (for terrain) with either spray/rattle cans, air brush, or dry brush. OttoVonAwesome
Steel legions drab base, layer Hammerfall Khaki, highlights flayed one flesh is how i'd do it. I'm a big fan of Hammerfall Khaki for doing uniforms. Unless they changed it Steel legion drab is much darker than that picture more of shadow colour as it's pretty desaturated brown colour.
