Valkyrion
My default opinion is Shooty Shooty as I think it will completely eliminate at least 2 full *things* each turn, whether that's a big blob of infantry, half a dozen tanks or another titan. But Stompy Stompy arguably cannot be beaten in close combat by anything close to its points value, and will probably require double or even treble its value to take down due to the 6D6 hard cap on melee. But its got to get there. So, do you have Shooty Shooty as a backline kill everything artillery piece, or Stompy Stompy as the biggest distraction carnifex GW has ever made? Captain Idaho
Shooty shooty. Those points costs would want the firepower to be achieving something each turn. SkimaskMohawk
It really depends on the guns you take and how focussed you are on single targets vs spreading stuff out. Suzerains average ~5.3 hits and 4.4 successful wounds into 2+. That's pretty good, bad also pretty bad considering you could have Russ squadrons up to 10 and you only killed 175 points with your main weapons. Or 2 Kratos/malc/baneblades. The shooting version gives you more sustained damage as you can start shooting the plasmas from 25", but the iconoclast mops whatever you bring it into contact with. Always either wanting to march 12" or charge 12" also helps it threaten a lot earlier and get all its point defence into action. Also, and maybe I'm just paranoid, but big sword boi matches into hordes of ogryns and veltaris way better than lazy suzans. Noserenda
Not sure if it actually works, but i do like the image of a double chainsword Iconoclast rocking up the middle of the table and engaging in enormous multiple combats of doom with whole companies of troops/tanks :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/381911-warmasters-stompy-stompy-or-shooty-shooty/#findComment-6009489 Share on other sites
Valkyrion
Regarding point defence; can I march and fire point defence bolt cannons in the movement phase, then fire point defence lascannons in the combat phase at a different target? Otherwise all my point defence weapons will have to fire at the same target, no? No. The last sentence of the third paragraph says: Quote A Detachment can only fire its Point Defence weapons once per round – if it fires one or more of its Point Defence weapons in the Movement phase, it cannot fire any Point Defence weapons in the Combat phase. Which is rather conclusive. No splitting up PD to have some shoot in one phase and some in the other. Also, unfortunately, the rules for PD explicitly say all PD weapons in the movement phase have to shoot the same target, and the titan split fire exception falls under the combat phase...not the movement. RaI it kinda doesn't make sense to have a mix of Light AT, Anti tank, and non-keyworded guns be forced to shoot all at one thing in the movement phase, but be able to split individual shots in the combat phase, so I'd let it go. Don't go asking this question in some of the Facebook groups though lol, some people had a meltdown when others asked about marine flyer heavy bolters being Light and skyfire.
