Prot
So far I'm really enjoying the games I've had with the codex. The first detachment I'm trying is the Canoptek Court, but not full boar Wraiths. Just one squad of 6 and a lot of other Canoptek units. I was getting tabled by Votann, heavily in T2. If it wasn't for the mortal wound/Tesla immortal combo, I most assuredly would have lost. It was this moment, and splitting fire between 2 Hearthguard (Termie-esque) units. That made half the difference, the other half was my opponent's... fault. I blew up one of his bigger tanks (Can't remember the name. ) The explosion was so insane, I think he lost about 10 models and tanky character with a relic hammer that did mortals, and reduced all damage.... it was just a huge moment. Anyway, I would love to hear how you folks have done. I want to try Obeisance or the Hypercrypt legion next. Tyriks
I have only tried the Canoptek Court (1000pts, against Orks) so far. I'm playing tomorrow but haven't decided which detachment I want to try first, Hypercrypt or Obeisance. I'm also playing Saturday so whichever I don't pick I'll play the other game. Canoptek Court did great for me. I was able to maintain No Man's Land in my Matrix most of the game which made it easy to have rerolls on everything the whole game. I didn't bring any Wraiths (mine still need to be rebased) but everything was either Canoptek or had a Cryptek attached. Tesla Immortals shooting at units on Objectives did a ton of damage. I infiltrated one unit with a Technomancer and the other had an Overlord with Translocation Shroud and Plasmancer so it was able to get onto an objective and shoot the unit already holding it (Ork Kommandos, infiltrated onto it) to activate my Matrix turn one. That made for a ton of rerolls, I'm certain that made a huge difference for the rest of the game. Lord_Ikka
I've played very few 10th edition games at all (weaning back from a too-intense end of 9th phase) but last week I ran a fun list to mess with a friend. Hypercrypt Legion (2k on the dot, no Enhancements) The Silent King The Nightbringer The Deceiver The Void Dragon Transcendent C'tan Deathmarks (5) Heavy Destroyer w/Gauss Heavy Destroyer w/Gauss Monolith w/Death Rays Turned out to do really well. My buddy was playing an AdMech list that was fairly balanced (lots of anti-infantry firepower, but also a set of lascannon chicken walkers and a dunestrider and full unit of robots). I wound up losing one of the heavy destroyers, both of the Silent King's Menhirs, and a total of 4 Deathmarks (3 were left of the squad at the end of the battle, but Reanimation brought back 2 in previous turns). Hypercrypt strats allowed me to give the Monolith a 4+ invuln (and enemy Hazardous weapons occasionally), which helped keep it nice and healthy the entire game. The C'tan were nasty, with the halving of damage helping them out a lot, and the Silent King was pretty useful as a general anti-anything fire platform. Overall it was a super fun list to run, though probably not a very competitive one. Tyriks
Had a rough loss Friday as Hypercrypt Legion. I made some mistakes in list building and deployment, but the mission itself kind of screwed me over. Deployment was Search and Destroy, and my opponent had a ton of Infiltrating units so I was pretty penned in from the start. I didn't set up a great table because I don't have ideal terrain for that deployment map. So there wasn't much place to hide stuff, even without the infiltrating. We drew the Mission Rule that you draw two new mission rules. One of the two we drew was Delayed Reserves which made me not use the detachment rules until after I was already pretty screwed. I killed a lot of stuff trying to fight my way out of my DZ, but not enough. I think my list could've been better and I definitely made bad decisions in deployment. But that mission rule really messed the whole game up for me. Last time that mission rule came up it stopped all of my reserves, which made me gun shy about removing anything from the table this time. By the time it was safe to do so I had already accrued a significant deficit in points. I ran out of time to complete the game so I just conceded. Felt bad not getting to use the detachment rule! Prot
Tyriks... That's too bad. That is one thing I fear... pulling that delayed reserves card with Hypercrypt. I was really disappointed to see the big nerf (my opinion) to the Canoptek Court mortal wound strat. I understand why they did it, but the feeling I had even while playing the detachment pre-nerf is that I had a lot of trouble doing damage. I was considering trying something else now that I have done both the Court and the Hypercrypt (a few times). Not sure though.
