Just met Eldar Ranger

Ranger went Assassin because main is Voidborn Crimelord Bounty Hunter w/ long las. The sniping duel just got started HARD. Agree on Cassia, but I'm just using her to Bring it Down for extra snipes from Pasqal's 'Rear' echelon and get a few heals (Command / get back in the fight) without needing much Veil. Abelard is distraction carnifex obvs, and then Pasqal w/ plasma (and tech-use 97) and Argenta w/ pistols up front. I somewhat foolishly made argenta a plasma expert, but right now plasma pistol / hand flamer is getting her so many attacks up close that I'm pleasantly surprised. May re-spec to capitalize on the pistols build as I like it more than just a second melee brawler. With pistols or bolter she's a good asset just a few steps behind the Abelard train. I did initiate the 'special flamer' project, so she'll probably get that instead of bolter in a few.

Should we set up a thread for this game that's not in the news section? Fun to read Fraters' responses and experiences... sorry some of you had bad act 3 experience but hopefully patches are helping.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

As for me I only experienced a single bug in all of act 3. In one room after the third arena fight I had two copies of one my companions. One in my party and one neutral/allied that was talkable to. He participated in the fight that ensued but seemed to be unarmed.

Act 4 had a lot several more bugs however and the writing seemed a bit... jerky? Possibly more bugs that meant I wasn't seeing all the dialogue I meant to see? Is too bad because some of the bugs would go onto to affect my ending... like me failing Argenta's companion quest even though I actually completed it. It just wouldn't flag properly as done.

Wish I had stopped before act4, it just went downhill:sad:

Patches and balance cant come soon enough:yes:

There's a planet upgrade for the forge world, its supposed to provide combat servitors in ship encounters, that didn't work, very frustrating:down:

Amazing game otherwise, I've just started 2nd play thru as a warrior/archM/commissar with the firestorm voidship.

Any tips for ship combat vs Eldar? Very nearly lost first encounter ... they're just so speedy and hard to hit w/ holo-fields.

No bugs for me yet other than an annoying clipping error that prevented party leaving a map.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

You have set your retinue members to do different crew positions right? They will eventually level up, One ability is one where you expend a little shields to affect the enemy shields.... with eldar holo fields it knocks a lot of mirror copies away. very usefull to do before you hit them with your most damaging weapons. Otherwise torpedoes never seem to miss.... and there's some torpedo related abilities as well

I'm not done with the game, but I'm in chapter 4 and can roughly see the path to the end.

I get a lot of minor bugs with dragging items around in the inventory, but closing and reopening the window usually fixes them. Quicksave/quickload in extremis. I've had a few issues with abilities not doing anything - Tactical Advantage is a big culprit. I had one Chapter 4 quest that was literally impossible to complete, though, and had to use Toybox (a mod that introduces a bunch of cheaty tools) to circumvent the issue.

I also used the mod to give myself a bunch of vender reputation and some alignment points, because I don't think either of those systems are balanced very well. Actually, the most bizarrely unfinished thing in the game is in the reputation system: one of the venders sells a staff that requires the Telekinesis psyker discipline, which was cut from the game during development.

Overall, definitely not great, but I've dealt with worse. I really wouldn't want to be on console though.

I'm going with the Heretic path - because I was interested to see how they'd handle it - and I'm... *mostly* okay with it. The majority of the heretic decisions are at least somewhat defensible from the standpoint of a secretly heretical RT who is presenting as a radical with occult interests. There are a few poorly-written ones, though, where your character says something very obviously traitorous and it's very hard to imagine your party members not putting a bullet in the back of your head on the spot. A bit more work could be done there.

Building the chaos element of the story around a primarily Tzeentchian plot was a very good choice in this regard. It lends itself to secret plotting in a way that a Khorne storyline really wouldn't be able to handle.

I figured that out just before the first engagement with them, yea... didn't lose, just too close for comfort lol - and the first torpedos I shot at them did miss : P

Probably my favourite thing about the game is that it's got a good variety of enemies. Xenos and multiple Chaos factions, rather than the predominantly Nurgle-focused game's we've had in recent years (notably Darktide, Vermintide and Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters). Very nice to have some solid variety and see those otherwise underutilised factions.

That said, I kind of put the game down and have paused for now, somewhere in Act 2/3 (not quite sure), as it feels kind of like cheating using Cassia, and I don't want to stop using her because I'd both built around her somewhat and because I want to see what happens with her character (ie, bringing the relevant Companions along on missions for dialogue). But then she's so ridiculously powerful, most enemies aren't even acting, so the combat isn't exaclty compelling any more - so I'm in a bit of a self-made bind (but because of their pretty bad balancing choices).

Might pick it up again after a week or two, let the game settle a bit with patches (have had some bugs, like door buttons not spawning so having to reload; no major ones for me, but heard about a lot of them) and hopefully reignite my interest - might have to start a new run and just focus on other characters, but the thought of running through the early-game content again so soon is not appealing!

Yep torpedoes are pretty op:yes:

and some fights you just have to come back to and wait for better ship upgrades.

There's still a chaos fight with a light and heavy cruiser and some escorts, I still aint done that, crazy some fights are:laugh:

I had issues with the ship fights for a while because I'd somehow convinced myself that the "Shield reboot" power you start the game with actually turns off your shields while it's running, which is not true. It's just a full shield heal with very minor combat downsides attached.

Aside from that, there's a colony project that gets you an "escort ship." It does middling damage but soaks hits like a champ, and imo it's almost mandatory for the higher-end fights.

On the subject of bugs, I just got the chaos-aligned "Secret Companion" and he's totally broken. His model doesn't render in-game and he can't equip most gear. Yikes.

Might be misremembering on torps.. i just can't recall them missing.. or was that vs drukhari ships? Regardless, they good. The shoot 3 torpedo salvoes at once ultimate is really nice

Spoiler

Neither could ulfar equip most things. This is based on FF so there's a very clear divide between astartes and non astartes gear. While I did manage to eventually get a him a helm, he never got gloves or boots before the end of the game. Just saying, there being few items to equip on Ulanor might be a feature, not a bug, though I haven't played as a filthy filthy traitor so I wouldn't know

Nah, it's a bug. I understand what you mean but I have plenty of Astartes-flagged gear and he can't wear any of it. Even the gear that he came with isn't registering. I've seen others point it out as well.

oh good, I’m not the only one who thought that.

Honestly, I really love the game, and it just *gets* the 40K vibe so well, but dear God the bugs are just crazy and I’m having to step away from it it shortly after starting Act 4, it’s legit impossible to do some side quests from them.

The exploration and colony building bits have been my favorite so far, so definitely didn’t enjoy Act 3.

Also Argenta is Best Girl (and probably should be nerfed, but she’s still hilarious).
