From the sticky objective abilities I quickly looked up, it doesn't say you stop controlling it when that unit is destroyed. Only when it is controlled by your opponent. A unit with 0 OC cannot control an objective, so it looks like it would still be controlled by the player with the sticky unit.

Certainly that's the way the rule works for Chaos Cultists, the only unit with sticky objectives whose rules I am personally familiar with.

Note, at least for Chaos Cultists, the objective doesn't become sticky right away - that doesn't happen until their controller's command phase.  So, a Chaos Cultist unit could move onto an objective and control it, then be killed before their command phase then the objective wouldn't be sticky yet and their controller would lose control of it (unless he/she had another unit also controlling it).

 

So, in answer to the original question - No, unless the "sticky" unit is destroyed before its rules make the objective sticky.
