Greetings fraters! I started the 3rd Legion a while back, but didn't like how they turned out. I realised it was the basing that was the problem, it was way too big and the wrong colour. So I slowly began the process of rebasing and am much happier with them now. Typically, instead of just cracking all the old stuff and then moving on, the odd purchase also managed to slip its way in, so the army is larger than when it started. It's almost there now...!

These are really cool! Dark and moody Emperor's Children. Nice work. I like your Lucius conversion, very different take.

Thank you! Try as I could, I just can't bring myself to like the FW Lucius, something about the leather gloves and belts on his chest for me. And also I never plan on using the Laer blade with him so I wanted a version with one clear main weapon rather than two. In my headcanon, his angelic features are how he sees himself owing to a glamour from Slaanesh, when in fact his face is of course a mess of scars.

Nice to see a darker take on the legion.

Thanks very much! I think their story is fascinating, to fall so far from such a height. Part of me wants to start a loyalist counterpart and try and make them a bright reminder of what the legion once was.

Some progress today on a couple of characters:

Praetor on Jetbike

Next up is a Jetbike Command Squad to join the Praetor, then two squads of five Recons. Then my pile of potential is officially empty! Eyeing up a Master of Signals, another Contemptor, and some multi-melta jetbikes after that...!

That's a cracking use of parts on the Praetor on jetbike. A true lord of dark majesty, reminds me of a some of the older Chaos Warriors and Chaos Space Marine art.

Thank you! It is certainly an expensive use of parts...!  My thinking is he was once the Master of the Joust (in my headcanon, the EC had jetbike tournaments), but is now Fulgrim's Executioner.

Hello fraters. I have gone a little overboard on the Kratos here - I like the idea that as the Heresy dragged on, even the Legion's Techmarines were expressing themselves in new and terrible ways.

Finally got round to finishing the Jetbike Command squad to go with the Praetor. Power fists and combat shields all round, this is the definition of a glass cannon! But I think the mobility (and more to the point, the aesthetic) is too much to pass up.

Armoured reinforcements arrive for the 6th Millennial! And also I have had another go at a conversion for Lucius, much happier with this one than the previous attempt.

Finally some photos of a 3k list I'm keen to try out - see if the Phoenician is as bad as his rules suggest!

The colour scheme is unique and certainly makes the force stand out. There'll be no question which of the Empreror's Children out there are yours. I enjoy the sickly green tint you've managed for your accent colours, it makes them disturbingly colourful in a way quite unlike the usual explosion of colour you assume as they get closer to noise mariens.

Thanks for the kind words. I saw the hades autocannon in my bits box and the idea just came to me - believe it or not the parts actually fit together with no modification needed!

I'm not a fan personally of pink EC - I know they're correct, somehow for me it is more disturbing to see them in their original colours but just made more sinister. A hint of the corruption beneath, making a mockery of their noble past (which is why they keep the legion name and sigil).

Lord Commander Hyperion Thorn, Prince of the VI Millenial, Scourge of Callax,

thumbnail_IMG_0933.thumb.jpg.a9733057472d7a375178fee1de4b8480.jpg

Hyperion was born on Chemos, and grew up in the crumbling factory-fortress of Callax just as Fulgrim's arrival had begun transforming it from the last bastion of a failed world into a beacon of progress. Opportunity was everywhere at such a time, especially for such a man as Hyperion. He ruthlessly exploited the avenues opened up by Fulgrim, his callous tenacity earning him his moniker. When the Emperor came to Chemos, Hyperion used every means at his disposal to ensure he was taken into the Astartes programme. His lowborn status initially earned him contempt among his new, chiefly Terran, aristocratic brothers. One of them however, Phoenix-Captain Alberic Callon, saw something of his own determination in the willful upstart. He took it upon himself to become Hyperion's mentor in the ways of combat, strategy, politics, and everything he would need to succeed in the Imperium. Hyperion hungrily took on these lessons, and surpassed his mentor by attaining the rank of Lord Commander. His crowning achievement however was emerging victorious in an inter-Legion tournament on Terra, slaying a protege of Sigismund himself in the final bout and claiming his weapon as a prize. Hyperion fell easily to Slaanesh.

Phoenix-Captain Alberic Callon

thumbnail_IMG_0932.thumb.jpg.26384ef07a12954ba16df67e6d95441c.jpg

Alberic numbered among the 200, all that was left of the 3rd Legion before Fulgrim was found by the Emperor. Even at that stage, he was already considered a veteran, Terran-born and renowned for his ferocity. He served for the entirety of Fulgrim's part in the Great Crusade, most of it in the Phoenix Guard. His skill at arms was legendary for many long years, but inevitably those years eventually exacted their toll. Knowing he would never be as quick as he once was, nor as agile, he sought and was granted a private audience with the Primarch. He abased himself before Fulgrim, told him the truth of his slow decay, begged his forgiveness and mercy that he might retire from the Phoenix Guard so as not endanger the Phoenician. Fulgrim had smiled, granted his request, even permitted him to bear the honorific 'Phoenix-Captain'. But Alberic could see the utter contempt in Fulgrim's eyes. He was imperfect. Alberic became bitter, realising too late that his title was in fact a mark of shame, of ridicule. He became more brutal in prosecuting war, replacing speed and grace with patience and cruelty. When he met Hyperion Thorn, he immediately decided to bind his fate to the young legionary's, and to serve his Primarch in tortured exile by raising up a perfect warrior to lead his armies. The fire that was lit in Alberic the day he left the Phoenix Guard led him to commit many atrocities in the name of the Warmaster.
