Further elements of the 61st Siege Company: Saturnine-pattern Dreadnought, Rapier quad-launchers, and Lieutenant Plutarch, Master of Signals

As the march on Terra continued, the Emperor's Children found themselves forced to engage in styles of warfare they did not prefer. The grim reality of seizing fortified ground from determined, Imperial defenders, meant siege, artillery, and grinding attrition. Though the swift, graceful, manoeuvre-based style continued to dominate their passions, increasingly the VI Millenial came to rely on companies such as the 61st. They excelled in this, as in any field of war, but with the guiding hand of Fulgrim increasingly absent, there was no genius to it. They executed it to the letter - nothing more.

Executioner-Pattern Predator Squadron

The 61st enjoyed a healthy complement of armoured vehicles. Executioner-pattern Predators were often favoured as the Heresy drew on - their fearsome plasma weaponry capable of breaching Astartes plate.

The Anointed - Praetorian Command Squad

led by Knight-Captain Orpheus - Librarian Consul

By the time the Primarch had ascended, he had long-since abandoned the Phoenix Guard as his personal retinue. Other formations attempted to seize this honour for themselves - one such was the Anointed. Blessed by their daemonic patrons with serpentine lower bodies, in a twisted facsimile of their liege lord, their speed allowed them to keep up with the Primarch, who occasionally deigned to fight alongside them. He frequently abandoned them on the battlefield, however. When a target of interest drew him away, the Anointed would be left to contend with whatever military objective the fractured 3rd Legion command structure had managed to designate.

Thanks both!

Hammers are from Bitzbox UK - not sure if they produce them or just stock them, search 'eagle hammer' and they have left and right handed versions. I clipped the skull off the bottom as didn't seem right.

Just stumbled on this thread - beautiful stuff.

Have you considered using any of the new 40K EC heads for your models?  If so and you need some, I'm sure I have some to spare that I could mail you - message me if this is something you might be interested in.

Very kind of you to offer! This collection sadly started before the new 40k stuff came out, or else they'd be everywhere, but I have started to integrate it now with my newer units. Don't have any more planned for now (switching fire to Custodes!) but if I do in future I'll message.

Attended an event last weekend - great fun! Four games over two days, against White Scars, Imperial Fists, Alpha Legion, and World Eaters. I lost three and won one but all games were close and I enjoyed them immensely. And my glorious 3rd won no fewer than ten challenges across the weekend!

The Praetor in Saturnine plate was the real standout, every game he charged straight up the middle with his Cataphractii retinue and took out the enemy Praetor in single combat (often comfortably). He then held the centre ground (on two games, single-handedly!) and was only finally slain once on the final game. That concussion hammer is just brutal.

Honourable mentions: one of the plasma Predators - max distance scattering once onto my Praetorian command jump pack squad (wiping the squad), and once onto the Phoenix guard (killing three). Saturnine dread with double inversion beamers - got within 15" and wiped eight enemy terminators in one volley. Librarian with jump pack - tanking three volleys from Exodus, and around five volleys worth of shooting from 5-man nemesis recon squads, before finally being killed in combat by a tactical sergeant.
