You mean the dreadnought kit they already replaced? :D

 

Our group has a lot of the mk1 resin Spartan and a couple of stormeagles in it, the upgrade to plastic is enormous on some kits.

You mean the resin Spartan they already replaced with another resin Spartan? :D

 

Megavolt was I assume taking issue with how hard/tedious the plastic kit is in comparison to the MK2 resin spartan.

I was suggesting the MK1 plastic Contemptor as a comparison.

Not saying they can't make nice heresy plastic vehicles, but clearly they need quite a few pieces for some of them.

There is always going to be a limit to the shapes you can create with plastic.

 

I don't want this monstrosity to be the alternative to complex plastic kits for Heresy

Apologies, it seems like I haven't explained myself well. The OG mars LR has an easy to assemble hull in fewer parts. GW has the Proteus, Spartan, Typhon etc sharing a universal design with essentially bolt ons to make them. In the classic design, the Proteus and Spartan would be seperate designs, but the Spartan and Typhon would share the same design base.

 

There is likely cost benifits with the current way GW has done these new kits. But, if done the old way like the mars LR, the kits would likely be much more expensive, which I would be ok with due to faster assembly time. I can confidently say I could assemble the mars pattern LR faster than the Proteus because of the hull difference. The LR differences are easy to explain in detail, I would have to assemble the Kratos to make a more detailed analysis of how the kit could be designed simpler, but at a higher expense to GW and us as the customer.

Yeah, sharing half the hull sprues between the two chassis does seem a little unnecessary. There is probably room to simplify on there. 

That said, larger parts might also add to the amount of sprues. Turning 3 hull sprues shared between two tanks into 5 or more.

 

Stuff like the dreads on the other hand does seem necessary to have the model cut up into a million pieces. Which I'm fine with, but will be damned if anyone is going to tell me it makes the kit "easier" than before. As long as you're not a numpty with posing, dreads have always been easy.

I can see why GW would not be keen on that.

I just think they shouldn't leave the UK in general.
