Character Creation Info:

Timeline:

Spoiler

Approx. late 38th Millenium, so well before anything in recent history, like the Badab War, 13th Black Crusade, Primaris, or anything later. That date is well after the 23rd Founding, and probably 24th and 25th are close enough to be workable too. However, it is well before the 26th Founding, so those Chapters are out.

NB. Obviously, Tyranids and Tau haven't arrived on the scene yet, so PCs won't be aware of them. Early-rising Necrons or advance/scout Genestealers could in theory have been encountered, though they wouldn't have been identified by the Imperium or the Deathwatch as such.

Available Archetypes:

Spoiler

There are still 2 slots available if any other player(s) would still like to join in. These slots can include any combination of:
Up to 1 Techmarine
Up to 1 Assault Marine
Up to 1 Devastator Marine
Or up to 2 Tactical Marines

Chapters:

Spoiler

I'm happy for people to build whatever characters they would like, created in the usual way from Core, RoB, FF or HtC. For simplicity I won't be using the DIY Chapter Creation tables from RoB, just the pre-existing ones. However, I'm happy if you wish to use one Chapter's rules to represent another, eg. for a Successor that doesn't already have its own rules?

XP:

Spoiler

Starting level as per DW Core - 1000xp to spend from Characteristic Advances and Rank 1 tables, which will bring you to the start of Rank 1.
You can take 1 Deed from RoB if you wish, but no Distinctions at this level of the game.

Equipment:

Spoiler

Power Armour: D10 Roll: 1-5=Mk7, 6-9=Mk6, 10=Choose any from: Mk4 - Mk7.
(Mk3 is getting too rare at this point in history to have been given out to a non-officer, and Mk8 is unavailable as it doesn't exist yet!)

Power Armour Histories: To be selected randomly. You may choose which table to roll on*, I will then make the roll, and you may then adjust the result up or down by 1.
*If your Armour type allows you to make more than 1 History roll, you must select a different table for each roll.

Renown: Initiated. Requisition will be determined at Mission Briefing… but it won't be particularly high! All DW Wargear such as SIA will be available, except for Hellfire Shells which don't exist yet! Standard Ammo will follow the Rule of Three whenever you are away from sources of resupply.

Individual Instructions:

Spoiler

There may be times where I will give a character (or characters) individual tasks or goals that may… or may not… run in harmony with the goals of the Kill-Team overall. If I do so, I will arrange it via PM chain rather than spoiler tags so that no one knows who is receiving them or what the true motivations and goals of their squadmates are. If you do get PMs in this regard, please keep it on the qt!

Red Scorpions

Devastator

[Ident:: Omoc, Designation:: Devastator, Reassigned:: Deathwatch, Duration:: Indefinite, Service Records:: Purged... Imperator Vult]

Only in death does duty end. For some this path is clear, one battle or one thousand in service to the Emperor until such time that they fall. For others the path shadowed and uneasy, a test of faith and resolve, a penance.

For those of the Red Scorpions the test of purity is the true test, the mark of their duty, and to stray even a step from this path is to court damnation and dishonour of the Emperors name. But it is not for those who have wavered to seek redemption for it cannot be asked for, only in the final judgement might it be found and only in the destruction of the enemies of the Emperor can it be earned.

Alda Ulfurbur

Firstborn daughter of a Jarl who only wished for a son to carry on his legacy in battle against the greenskins that infest the mountains, Alda was largely left to her own devises in her childhood. Following the birth of her two younger brothers when she was three and four she was further sidelined as the households attention was always on the boys. While exploring by herself she found herself in the Sage’s study one day and was fascinated by the pictures in the bestiary that happened to lie open on the copyist table.  Sneaking back whenever she had the opportunity to look at the books, she begun to teach herself to read. When she was enviably caught, however instead of being punished, the Sage took her under her wing and taught her as best he could when he had time to spare, feeding the fierce intelligence and curiosity of the young Alda.

In her eleventh year the Skylords came once more to take all those worthy with them into the lands beyond. Knowing that she would have little prospects if she remained the Sage arranged for her to be deemed worthy as well, much to the surprise of Alda’s father.

Unlike the warriors that had been chosen, who all to a man had been filled into the ranks of the Imperial Guard, Alda Ulfurbur entered service with the Administratum. She excelled in and devoured knowledge as fast as she could, though when it came to the work side of the various roles she was middling at best. With time she got shifted into ever more specialist departments, until one day her line managers no longer wore the seal of the Administratum, instead bearing a rosette of considerable more importance.

large.JungleCharge2a.jpg.9956a37cc1b9303af924d071b10dc64d.jpgSince the Mantis Warriors are limited in number and resources, all arms and armour were to remain with the Chapter, thus placing Azadth into the care of the Deathwatch. As per tradition, when he presented himself to the Deathwatch Thunderhawk to take him from Tranquillity III, only his knife and travelling gear accompanied him.

Pict-capture of Brother-Intitiate Gerhardt on crusade, ca. late M38.

Name: Gerhardt

Chapter: Black Templars

Designation: Brother-Initiate (Tactical Marine)

Abridged Service Record & Awards:

- Purging of Melchior V - Citation for Valour for duelling and executing [REDACTED]

- Liberation of Ultraxus III - Citation for Heroism for rallying battle-brothers and leading counter-attack against [REDACTED]

- Helsgard Crusade - Bodyguard to Castellan Siegwald, Crusade Honours, Service Stud awarded (first century of service)

- Seconded to Deathwatch

It is a great test of a Black Templar’s faith to stand a vigil with the Deathwatch, and so honor his chapter’s ancient oaths to the clandestine army of xenos slayers. Brother Gerhardt, a prospective candidate for the Sword Brethren, has been tapped for this strange honour, to take a solo pilgrimage into the heart of darkness. In so doing, he has had his mind, body and spirit tested again and again and again by his chapter’s Reclusiam, the skull-masked chaplains watching with keen interest for any sign of weakness, any wavering in his faith, his oaths of duty.

He has not been found wanting.

Ordo Xenos Reference File

Classification: Carmine Gamma-IV

File number: CLXXXMMMDLXV - Phi Gamma VI

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSZL5Q4TTzaG6ES0K0rGMK

Name: Moridyn

Chapter: Star Phantoms

Specialization: Tactical Marine

Notable Actions (pre-Deathwatch secondment):
Assault of Karkar IV - Noted for defense of Imperial Governor's Palace against Aeldari Xenos- subtype Beta

Cleansing of Darra - Data removed by order of the Ordo Hereticus

The Pact of Char Aggression - Awarded the Hourglass of Ashes* for heroism during the campaign

* Star Phantoms Astartes mark of distinction; ref oberservations/mortuary cult/Star Phantoms

Observations:

Though a young chapter, the Star Phantoms have seconded several members of their brotherhood to serve in the Deathwatch. Moridyn is a typical brother of the Star Phantoms- cold and distant in his temperament, but a dedicated and deadly warrior. Like others of his chapter, Moridyn favors the application of directed firepower to overcome enemy forces and is a specialist in defensive formations. Further observations to come.

Name: Váfri Bloodsong

Chapter: Vlka Fenryka ("Space Wolves")

Specialization: Tactical

The Great Company of Harek Steelfang are bellicose even by Fenrisian standards, and Váfri - a Grey Hunter in the service of that Wolf Lord before his secondment to the Deathwatch - is no particular exception. His suit of MK VI armour rattles with carved stone talismans and the strung teeth of slain beasts, and its surface is intricately worked with runes. From his shoulders hangs the pelt of a huge wolf, and his helm sports a topknot plume made from its tail.

Beneath that helm is a sharp, scarred face and a large beard - once a fiery red, now increasingly silver. Unlike many of his chapter he sports a shaven head, the better to display the tattoo of the Stormwolf that takes up much of the left side of his skull.

Selected Service Record:

Enholt Drift Intercession: Multiple boarding actions against mutant Ogryns. Commended for saving the shipmaster of the bulk hauler Unswerving during an assault ram insertion to stop the creatures overrunning the command deck.

Gharskal V: Pack noted for efficient orbital assaults.

Liberation of Solial IX: One of several Astartes assigned to bolster morale of Astra Militarum and civilian scratch company units. Minor administrative incident caused (field execution of officer without Officio Prefectus consultation).

Brother Amaras

Charnel Guard Apothecary (Sanguinary Priest)

large.IMG_2821.jpeg.7e01fb2fb259f193eb6d6a38773309db.jpeg

Pict capture taken from a selection of busts in the Chapel of Unerring Judgement, displaying “the Host of HIS divine retribution” in the Cathedral of St. Dumax, Quattro-Prime Hive on. Demiral, Golgothan Sub, believed to be made in the image of Brother Amaras of the Charnel Guard

(apparently commissioned during the rebuilding of the Cathedral sub complex in 873 M 40 and therefore of dubious historical accuracy as some artistic leniency should be expected - especially since the Dumax Purges specified no human survivors to the Charnel Guard intervention that ended the Uprisings - A.)

The Charnel Guard has stood against the enemies of the Imperium for millennia and has honored it‘s obligation and oaths to the Deathwatch since their inception during the so called War of the Beast.

Ever a calm and studious type, Brother Amaras was already known among his brethren to occupy himself with research on the enemies of Mankind during the long watch cycles attending his brethren slumbering in stasis outside of combat deployment.

Having recently distinguished himself during the purge of  the Golgothan Insurrection, it was therefore of little surprise to them that Chapter Command called on the young Sanguinary Priest to uphold the Charnel Guard‘s  oaths to the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Xenos before the Chapter fleet would move on.

The auxiliary crew of the lone Watch Cache on the edge of the Golgotha Sector was much more surprised to find themselves under the sudden attention of a Sword Class frigate bearing the insignia of the infamous Charnel Guard but could after some  initial agitation confirm the rotes of summoning put out some four hundred years earlier.

As the frigate departed for the system’s Mandeville point, the human adepts thus nervously welcomed the lone Astartes and the three servitors carrying an ornate stasis crypt into the Watchpost, hoping that their astropathic relays would not be delayed and their  newest charge transferred to an operational Watch Station as soon as possible….

Physical description:

The Apothecary shares the noble, patrician features common to all descendants of. Sanguinius, though his are framed by a shock grayish, whitening hair and  his eyes are milky white amidst  grayish, pale skin shot through with bluish veins, often  tending  to a purplish bruising, which is why Amaras usually keeps his face hidden inside his helmet or  the depths of his robes.

Amaras bears an ancient, well maintained suitor MK VI pattern armour which obviously has been modified to provide the necessary tools and equipment of an Apothecary. It bears little further ornamentations aside from the obvious heraldry of the Death Watch  apart from  the insignia of his profession that is prominently displayed on the left leg guard. Also,  he retains a simple robe in the somber maroon in a display of his chapter’s colours and insignia, as well as a curios mark in the shape of a single rose made from five petals.

  • 3 weeks later...

Name:

Marax Zidemi

Chapter:

Salamanders

Specialisation:

Techmarine

Cybernetics:

Servo-Arm (power armour integrated)

MIU

Power Armour:

Mk 6

Biography:

A gregarious and inquisitive Astartes, Zidemi was formerly a Devastator Marine of the 2nd Company before his induction into the Machine Cult. The Masters of the Forge recommended Zidemi after he showed a knack for maintaining and regulating plasma weaponry, never suffering an overheating incident. After thirty-three years of training on Mars, he returned to the chapter’s 2nd Company and took up the mantle of Techmarine; his mind enlightened by the Cult Mechanicus but his cheerful demeanour and dedication to the Chapter unchanged.

Years later, in late M38, the Chapter Master of the Salamanders would answer the call from the Deathwatch and recommended Zidemi for secondment. His decision was based on Zidemi’s exceptional craftsmanship and devotion in maintaining the Chapter’s armouries, and his “harmonious demeanour” would make him well-suited for the intermingled institution that is the Deathwatch.

Notable Service History:

Defence of Vanadis - A four-year long conflict on the valuable mining world of Vanadis against a formidable Ork Waaagh!, alongside the Cadian Guard and the White Consuls. During the defence of the main Imperial stronghold, Zidemi and his Devastator Squad shot down several Ork skimmers and hovercraft, halting their advance and creating an opening for a counter-attack.

Training on Mars - As tradition, Zidemi underwent thirty years of training as an inductee of the Machine Cult on Mars. His return to the Chapter was delayed by three years due to warp-storms. Upon his return, he joined the Salamander's Armoury as a Techmarine, and would continue to serve alongside the 2nd Company.

Liberation of Chorus III - The Salamanders answered the call to destroy a persistent Chaos cult on the world of Chorus III. After a Predator squadron’s advance on the cult’s fortress came to a halt, Zidemi performed a challenging repair in the line of fire, allowing the armoured assault to succeed and the fortress to fall.
Lion’s Maw Crusade - A joint operation with the Salamanders and Brazen Claws chapters that saw both come to a head on how to liberate the Lion’s Maw star system from a Chaos warband. Despite the tumultuous leadership, Techmarines from both chapters co-ordinated their efforts for a series of successful armoured spearheads that lead to victory for the Imperium.
