NTaW
NECRON UNIT OF THE WEEK SERIES Welcome to the Necron Unit of the Week series for 10th edition! Each week will see a different unit from the Codex, Imperial Armour, and Legends datasheets featured for discussion. The goal here is to discover and chronicle tactics for the featured unit so that new players and veterans alike can use this database to inform their strategies with the wider knowledge of the forum. The game of Warhammer 40,000 is ever changing though, and as the rules evolve throughout the edition everyone should feel free to return to older threads with the release of new FAQs/errata, changes in points values, information gathered from games played, and of course the Codex being released. These threads are also great places for newcomers to the Necrons to post their questions about tactics related to the featured units. Please note that the purpose of this series is not to lament what the current meta deems “ineffective”, or that another unit “does it better”. Those units will get their own threads. This week’s unit is: Deathmarks How are you using your Deathmarks? How many and what size units are you using? Has the Hyperspace Hunters ability been useful? Are there any Detachment or Stratagem rules of specific use? Are you using their Deep Strike ability? Prot
When I revisited my Necrons for 10th I was shocked no one was using these. They aren’t great, but they’re great for their points. Add in hypercrypt and they just get a little bit better. Tyriks
I have used them a few times to deep strike onto objectives. They've been great for that. They also picked off the last few wounds from a unit of Berzerkers when I played WE but my other units had already done most of the damage. I don't really know if there is a good target for them to shoot at. Maybe Guard if your opponent really needs their characters? They can't reliably kill much. For example last night I played against Votann with my Hypercrypt with one 5 man squad, I hit an HQ that had a relic hammer in a Herthguard squad that I was terrified of. I somehow took 4 wounds off of him. He still had (I think) 2 or 3 but he was so afraid of moving the squad after that. Then low and behold final turn of the game, he goes to run onto an objective to hold it for multiple points (Primary and a secondary) and I overwatch with the Glock-topus, and somehow get the last wounds off changing the end of the game entirely. Lucky? Yup, but at least the Deathmarks.... left their mark. Usernamesareannoying
so this thread hasnt seen any action in a while :) with their cheaper points what do you guys think about deathmarks now? i dont understand why i dont hear more about them... their gun seems pretty great combined with deep strike. whats bad about them, the single shot? Bonzi
I think they're a great one off filler unit at their cost. Several armies out there including Tau, Guard, Necrons, and Orks have very strong buff characters that can be threatened by a single unit of 5. Being able to threaten Ork Pain Boys or Weird Boys arriving via da jump is gonna be a must in the upcoming meta. At the least they score points and perform actions on the cheap too. Saw this on Auspex Tactics, exactly as you say, Deathmarks Deep Striking because the Hypercreeping Stratagem benefits Deep Strikers to do Secondaries aaaah I should've done this. Reminder, after the June Balance Dataslate C'tan can't Hypercreep around anymore because Monsters are now prohibited.
