Jolemai
Welcome to part two of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series! Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends. Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed. Without further ado, here's this week's entry: Chaplain What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Chaplain? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Which Detachment are you using? What unit is he leading, if any? What delivery options are you using? What deployment options are you using? Stratagem synergy of note? Over to you. Please note that Chaplain in Terminator Armour, Chaplain on Bike, and Chaplain with Jump Pack will be discussed elsewhere. Jolemai
Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please. (Once I work out how best to float it!) *** As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos. Goranged
So I have used the chaplain for two main purposes: leading a DC in either LR or Stormraven or Leading 6x Bladeguard with liby teleporting. Both are super fun and effective. He's cheap and with BG, even though the Lieutenant is more effective against infantry, with the chapi they do better against armor if needed due to +1 to Wound. If the dataslate rumors are true, and if now battleshock making OC0 also affects secundary actions, having a character making units more reliable would make it a nice option as well. Karhedron
I am really liking the look of a foot Chappy leading a blob of Assault Intercessors. If charging an enemy unit on an Objective, they get 5 S6 attacks with +1 to Wound and full rerolls to Wound as well (rerolling 1s to Wound when not on an Objective is not too shabby). That is a lot of punch for not very many points on a Battleline unit. It also allows you to use the obligatory Red Rampage strat on other units. The only issue is Transport. 5 AIs + Chappy in an Impulsor is not too bad at only 215 points. Or they can take up spare slots in a LR if you are running one for another squad.
