Wolf Guard Dan
Full disclosure: I’m not sure I know what I’m doing either. The list has good tools. I recommend playing a few games and seeing what works and what doesn’t. I do like the combi weapon lieutenant for marking the objective and lone operatives are legit. You do have a lot of options and I wouldn’t worry about picking up anything at this point. GW had been trying to make everything worth taking and is punitive against auto includes. I do think Scouts are good but your army is Vanguard so had a lot of tricks without them. I recommend only getting a unit if you like the unit and the models. killersquid
Thanks, I appreciate the support. I have my first game tonight, so I'll try and brush the dust off my gameplay and see what works. Signed up for a tournament at the end of the month. I don't expect to place or do well, but it's nice to have a guaranteed 3 games to play in one day against (hopefully) a variety of forces. killersquid
Well, I had my game. A bit of a beginner game with a fellow from the local shop, who was learning his Tau. So, by no means either of us were playing super efficiently lol, but it was a good way to learn and get back in the swing of how the game works. My Favourite units from the game, were the Terminators, Ballistus Dread, Stormspeeder Thunderstrike, and the Gladiator Valliant. Vs Tau, the stormspeeder could give my whole army +1 to wound vs any of his suit units, which was nice. The Valliant, Stormspeeder, and Ballistus were all very effective with their long-range shooting. The Brutalus never made it to combat, but the infiltrating unit with 12 terminators was fun. Looking forward to trying the list out again. Lord Ragnarok
Nice! Glad the thunder strike was working for you. Tau are always fun to bash. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382237-2000pt-wolves-not-sure-what-im-doing/#findComment-6021698 Share on other sites
TiguriusX
did you try to rapid ingress the brutalis? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382237-2000pt-wolves-not-sure-what-im-doing/#findComment-6021922 Share on other sites

killersquid
Finished a couple of models, and I played in a RTT recently. Redemptor and Chappy on bike Played in 2000pt 3 round RTT Here is my Army. Game 1 was Vs Deamons, with Belakor, Lord of Change, Great Unclean One, and a big unit of Bloodletters and Bloodcrushers to take advantage of the Bloodthrone Buffs. T1, I ran my infiltrating terminators into him with dread support, but he killed most of the unit dead almost immediatly afterwards. I was able to do well with scoring, but I made mistakes with target priority and positioning (let alone losing my terminators early) Lost 72-75 Game 2 vs Chaos Space Marines, with almost all nurgle vehicles. This game was very tough, as I couldn't see him unless I was within 18", and he had so much shooting, that if I came out I'd loose what went into the open. In Hindsight, I played this too caustiously, and should have been more aggressive. My passive deployment forced my vehicles to get stuck behind terrain and unable to move. Lost 70-74 Game 3 Vs Custodes and Canis Rex This game went pretty well for me from the hop. The Ballistus and Stormspeeder were able to take down Rex in two turns, and the terminators, Redemptor and Brutalis took out the middle. Won 80-52 Overall, very happy with my list. Really like the Incursors and Thunderstrike buffing my units shooting. My list was slow though, and I really had trouble getting objectives quickly. I also played too caustiously, and should have been more aggressive. The Brutalis didn't really do anything, I tried rapid ingressing him game 2, and it backfired against me, as my opponent screened me out really well. Painting up some thunderwolf, and hopefully be back at an event in a few months. TiguriusX
Your prior report said the brutalis never made it to combat. With rapid ingress you will hit something...even if just screens. You need to play around that by sending brutalis into his screens on turn 2 and forcing a response or clearing the screens and sending brutalis on turn 3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382237-2000pt-wolves-not-sure-what-im-doing/#findComment-6029113 Share on other sites
killersquid
Yeah, it charged a vindicator tank after coming in, but bounced off of it and then was blown up. I just didn't have a lot of good places to bring it in. It did better in the two games it walked, as it could then fight for an objective. But in game 1 belakor charged and killed it. Game 3 it killed a bunch of custodes. Bouncing off a vindicator is bad luck You wound on 3s and with a tank shock going in have a decent chance of killing it I'm guessing armor of contempt and made the 3s and if you are still vanguard you have no way to buff your melee AP (main reason I use Gladius is the AP melee buff) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382237-2000pt-wolves-not-sure-what-im-doing/#findComment-6029283 Share on other sites
killersquid
No Armour of contempt, just bad rolls. I had in three consecutive turns an invictor, the brutalis, and a redemptor all charge the same vindicator and none killed it. Lol. I was playing Vanguard, so i could Infiltrate the terminators. I found the defense buffs useful, but I didn't really use the strats much. Might try a different detachment next time. TiguriusX
the vindicator should have died from tank shock alone with all those charges clearly had the emperors blessing to survive all that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382237-2000pt-wolves-not-sure-what-im-doing/#findComment-6029293 Share on other sites
