m_r_parker
So, all the way back in 4th Edition, I had a 1,500pt Deathwing force that I would game with. It wasn't very good, it was terribly painted, but I loved that force - it felt very thematic to me. I've always loved Terminator Armour as a concept, and something about having a very small model-count force appeased the hobbyist in me (I was never one for horde armies). 1,500 points, 15 models; Belial, 2x Deathwing Squads (1 was upgraded to a command squad with the banner an Apothecary), 2 Land Raiders (1x regular and 1x Crusader) and 2 Venerable Dreadnoughts (both had Missile Launchers, one had an Assault Cannon and the other a Plasma Cannon). So what better time to try and recreate this than with a whole new scale of Terminator Armour, and models to go with it! Having run through the new SM Codex and DA Supplement, I think I have the equivalent coming into 10th Edition: Belial (85pts) Ancient in Terminator Armour (probably with a fancy Power Sword) (75) Deathwing Squad 1 (5 models, 2x Chainfists, 1x Assault Cannon) (205) Deathwing Squad 2 (5 models, 2x Chainfists, 1x Plasma Cannon) (205) Land Raider (+ all the trimmings) (240) Land Raider Crusader (+ all the trimmings) (230) Redemptor Dreadnought (Heavy and regular Onslaught Gatling Cannons) (210) Redemptor Dreadnought (Plasma Incinerator and Gatling Cannon) (210) Comes out at 1,460 if I have my calculations right. Enough that should I want to include an Enhancement I can. This is by no means a list for people to comment and critique on; I'm not here to be competitive, I'm being nostalgic, and I'm looking at this from a modelling perspective. I'm fairly sure I could do better with a Chaplain instead of an Ancient, and maybe the Ballistus is a better dread for what I want than the Redemptor. If I constantly tweak, nothing will get done, and I'm terrible enough at getting things done in the first place without indecision creeping in... "So what are you going to be doing here?" Good question, imaginary voice in my head... This is going to be a place for me to dump various aspects of this project going forward. From planning (models, colour schemes, etc) to execution (build and paint). It's an excuse for me to get some sprues out and see what I can do with kitbashing, build in some scope for flexibility with some magnetisation, and ultimately give me some drive to get a project done in the year. I already know what I'm likely to do; buy everything in one go, build it all, get is sprayed with a primer - and then panic at the prospect of painting it, and leaving it there. Hopefully this will keep me motivated to push through and actually complete something. Mr. Oddity
It's always a wonderful treat to see a nostalgia project like this get started. We all have different entry points into and journeys within the hobby, and seeing those callbacks helps keep the history of the game alive for me. I'm excited to see how this project develops!
