There are three individual Wasteland Giant Rat sculpts incoming to Necromunda – the multi-headed monstrosity that comes with a Beastmaster, and two more available in a booster pack for gangs who really want to drown their foes in a tide of rodents.

For the folk who wanted space skaven

Speaking of them though, I'm sure I've seen the covered head on the two-headed rat on an existing skaven miniature?

To everyone who wanted Space Skaven:

See how the monkey's paw curls.

(In all seriousness tho, I like the vibe of these rats.)

You do all know ratskins and giant rats were a key part of oldmunda, right?

History, boys and girls!

I do think Stephen May doing his own ratskin shortly after leaving GW suggests they are not forthcoming? He has been very vocal on Instagram about the difficult end to his time in Specialist Games, and even he & Andy Hoare stopped following one another - when they used to share & play together. I wonder if ip-adjacent projects like it, the piscean and the heresy scouts attest to what he wishes he got to do?

I'm making no comment about the guy with the Giant Rats, more that that second rat head is suspiciously Skaven-like.

Theres giant rats and then theres Skaven, and these really lean into the latter! Definitely a lot stronger minis than the "eh" class handler.

And yeah, i doubt we will see Ratskins again, i was surprised by Redemptionists even in a diminished capacity but they werent comprehensively erased in the fluff.

Ratskins haven't been erased in the fluff. The now defunct Gangs of the Underhive had an entire page of fluff about Ratskin raids and refers to both Ratskin scouts and Ratskin Renegades. Here's a small tidbit:

"Some Ratskins hire themselves out as guides or trackers, and a few become semi-civilised as a result of contact with hivers and can be found and hired in the larger settlements such as Dead End Pass of Hive Primus. There are few expeditions that would venture into unknown waste zones without the expert aid of a Ratskin tracker."

The Book of Peril also has several mentions of Ratskins; the Ratskin Map is a new item it added to the Trading Post, along with the Blindsnake Pouch (the fluff text refers to Ratskin Shamans making them). Scabs (Kal Jerico's mate) is also half-Ratskin.

I think it would be possible to add Ratskins back to the game as scouts and/or renegades, while avoiding the more overt Native American imagery of the former incarnation. Not sure it's high on GW's priority list for Necromunda though. I'm hoping they move away from Ash Wastes though.

As for the topic at hand, I quite like both the beastmaster and the rats. And I'm glad they're releasing the extra rats separately from the beastmaster too, for those that want them as pets in their gang.

You'll have your wish (the moving away from Ash wastes) if current rumours are true, as the game will move into a different hive on the planet (supposedly) .

Everyone out here going crazy for Space Skaven and I'm just here admiring the Beastmaster lol. I think they did an excellent job on the details with her - the shock goad perfectly hits the intersection between ramshackle and functional, the short-barrel shotgun is a cool little design, and her face looks suitable weathered for someone living in the wastes. Plus the armor and strapping is really well detailed too. Overall a home run from my perspective.
