I've got a few miniatures to varnish, and as I use matte varnish, I'm nervous about the dreaded "frosting" effect.

I've found varnishing in summer ok, but it's a damp and chilly late winter here. The garden building I do mine in is currently 9ºC and 80% humidity. Is that a problem?

Does having the airbrush/varnish/miniatures in there for a while to acclimatise to the same temp help?

Anything else I should be wary of?

I can't really comment (those conditions are not conducive to me being in them ), but the general advice when unsure would be to try spraying a spare bit of sprue, and see if that behaves before trying it on something important

Never had a problem with airbrushing on varnish. I live in similar conditions. But getting everything to room temperature is always a good idea, if only for aiding the drying process.

Spray can varnish however is an absolute no go in high humidity. I use cans only if humidity is below 60%, preferably even lower. Also I warm up the can with lukewarm water before spraying. And don’t forget to shake the hell out of it as well.
