Welcome to part two of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Lieutenant In Phobos Armour?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • Are you taking multiples?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • What unit is he leading, if any?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What Deployment options are you using?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Please note that Lieutenant, Lieutenant in Riever Armour, and Lieutenant with Combi-weapon will be discussed elsewhere

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

I've run this model only once for his move after shooting shenanigans paired with Incursors squad. It somewhat worked.  First two rounds was Ok but when my enemy found them too irritating he just moved in such a way they had no option to hide.

First impression that Lieutnant could increase both survivability (move-shoot-move) and damage output (Lethal Hits) was quickly followed by second thoughts. Two units of Incursors work better.

Maybe he has more synergy with other units but haven't tried it yet...

I've seen his ability to allow rievers to drop, shoot, move d6", and then have a closer charge than anything else in the game when coming out of reserves. That would be really cool... if it was anything other than rievers!

Thing is, it's the one thing that makes Reivers actually pretty scary. For only 225 points, you're dropping a huge number of attacks on a target. Your likelihood to connect right out of Deep Strike is very high, then if you're actually in the Blood Angels detachment, your making 57 S:6 attacks, and you can use a the strat to give them lance, so you're wounding most things on 2's. I've found it decent to great in any situation. On average, you're killing 2 Custodes, 6 marines, or with Lance taking 7 wounds off an Amiger. Yeah that's only about 100 points worth of damage, but that's still only one attack.

Where it really shines though is against high toughness low save armies. You charge this into a unit of 20 ork Boyz and you're almost guaranteed to wipe the squad, WAAAGH! turn or not. They're also very mobile once they're they kill their target, zipping around to harass elsewhere or secure objectives.
