Tacitus
I shouldn't have fully assembled them. But its not that bad if you did. Painting the "robe backs" between the shouldpads and backpack is harder than it needs to be but not impossible. Painting the chest eagle and robe edges on the chest around the eagle is more irritating I'd say with the arms in the way. The little bitty shoulder shield that I've seen called a "tilt plate" if you're looking for 3D Bit STLs should probably go on the model's left shoulder except if its carrying the banner that isn't a banner. Otherwise it throws off the "balance" with looks and assembly. I 3D printed a shoulder pad with a lion's head emerging from the pauldron on the unit side. I'm liking it even though I kinda schlepped teh paint on it. For me, the first one is almost always a throwaway as I learn how/when I want to paint which/what. So far I've only done the very basics and even then almost entirely in Contrasts, Corax White, and one of the golds. I'm REALLY liking how well the Contrasts do on here - I went with Black Templar for the black, Sigvald Burgundy for the robe and snakebite leather for the belt pouches. I like the look of the lion pauldron, I think I want to do it in the same white as the chapter symbol and chest eagle. I like the Sigvald Burgundy much better than the 6 layers of red and purple from the app for the "official" color. It's a much - and I don't know the word here: deeper/brighter/sharper - color. It looks like it would have a sheen in the light, and swallow light in the shadow. It also sets off the Snakebite Leather. They pair well together. Makes me wish there was more "leather" on the model. The smoke from the incense brazier is just corax white right now, but I'm thinking of getting a little gradation to the whte/grey, then washing it all with Cassandra yellow to give it an oily look. Tokugawa
Maybe you are too strict to yourself? If tip of paint brush can't touch an area on a model, then this area possibly needn't be painted, opponent players can't see it. Meh, I can get the tip there, I just can get it there easier in substages sometimes, just a matter of knowing which is which. Mostly I was playing with new colors, and wanted to share, but I'm also sure there's somebody out there who hasn't gotten their ICC yet because they missed the pre-order and they were out of stock for a bit or something. Prot
I think he looks good! I just wish the picture wasn't in the shadow... but from what I can see, you did a great job and the colour works. I agree on the deeper robe colour. I don't think there's a wrong answer here I've seen a few takes on the robes but I agree that contrast you found (I just tried it myself on Azrael's inner cloak) is really good. Unfortunately I started my Inner Circle on black primer, so I'm taking the long route. What I did was glue the hands to the swords, and blue tac them on as well as the shoulder pads and heads. In the past I've even lightly glued the backpacks on, and just rip them off to paint. I agree, that robe is VERY tricky to get to otherwise. Great start though, I'm looking forward to seeing how they come out for you. Tacitus
I did OK - its just a "test" model. I've been fairly lucky when it comes to getting an "extra" unit either because I've been able to afford it in the past or it ends up in a value box etc so I'm kind of used to painting up the first something, and learning how I should have done it for next time. I already know I'm going to make a second set of these with that 3D Printed shield mounted on the back for most, some poses will lend itself to shield in hand (the Judiciar guy and the banner dude could both end up holding a shield) I started with Xenithal Highlighting. Airbrush black up from the bottom, then Airbrush (in this case) a really light grey from the top, then I stuck the contrasts over the top. Most of what I'm learning is - aside from colors I picked are really working well together after drying - build issues. I ordered some Vallejo liquid putty - DA Robes and not-quite-joints appear to go heavily hand in hand, and the backpacks can wait. Skeleton Horde works well for the non-purple robes. That contrast burgundy and contrast snakebite work REALLY well together. I want to find something that would use that scheme - Nid Fleet, Tau Sept, something.
