Nah, its not based on what they can join, its based on their statline.  They want as few juggled statlines as possible- so if Gravis Armor gives you +2T, +2W and -1 MV you get a new datasheet for having Gravis Armor.  If picking a storm shield just gives you +1W but doesn't mess with Mv etc, that's not ideal but allowed.

Yes and I think if we get an ‘inceptor’ captain option, we’ll eventually get to mix and match wargear options.

maybe an assault bolter, powerfist, and jump pack.

maybe MC bolt rifle, power fist

etc.

so eventually we’ll only have 3 captain datasheets.

tacticus captain

gravis captain

phobos captain(if they continue expanding phobos options that is)

As primaris characters that fit into different units get released we’ll see a return to characters with more options in the datasheet, rather than having half a dozen datasheets, and soon the loadouts won’t be as set in stone as they are now.

Other than Phobos lieutenants, are there other characters with more than one datasheet per armour type?

Inceptors seem a bit of an oddball unit. It is like Cawl took a look at Tau Crisis Suits and decided Marines needed some. They work well but nothing has been done with them since their initial release in 8th. I am not expecting to get a Captain option for them. I think the existing Gravis Captains are probably the full range. Holding out hope for a biker captain though.

I think it's because Inceptors are one of those units that hit the nail on the head and don't need anything more. They're orbital drop troops meant to clear out a landing area for Drop Pods and Overlords. They play on the table top exactly as they're described in lore: Deep Strike and blast a unit into oblivion. I agree that they probably won't get a Captain because they have such a niche roll in the lore.

If anything Inceptors should be able to join drop pods (disregarding the contents of the drop pod), since drop pods can deep strike in turn one while Inceptors have to wait till turn two.
