hesitant to because a) its quite warm, and I think I would want to cool down the gold, not make it warmer and b) it makes the trim look kind of oily/dirty, which works well for my CSM but I want a cleaner look for my EC.

Absolutely! I also like a colder gold for this kind of scheme... so I do think Drakenhof Nightshade or slightly blue wash might be the ticket for you... Not least because it's actually a good shade to define the lines between the major triad of purple/gold/white. I think that could really pump up the legibility of the white/gold separations which are routinely the hardest part of my Khorne scheme (though there for me it's not gold but very dull bronze).

Great stuff anyhow - can't wait for more!

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Interesting suggestion on doing gold trim, @space wolf - I'm not going to redo these guys, but its worth a try on my tormentors, where, if it works as I imagine it doing, might give me a more subdued gold more in keeping with their in game sneakiness.  Or maybe try that and the purple suggestion from @Dr. Clock on my noise marines, though I'm wary at experimenting under the time pressure of having to complete the noisies for my Call to Arms vow.

Finished my first post-codex EC squad and am pretty happy with it.  They still need to be based (which will occur when I have finished my other CtA vows, as I'll be basing them all at the same time).  They may also, as we've discussed, get some highlights/shading and need a protective coat.

You can see how I've done the symbols facing both directions, which I think works fine.

Next up is my "stock" Lord Exultant, and then my first squad of noise marines.

Don't tell the Chaplain, but I love these. The colour scheme is very fresh - the purples, golds, whites and blues make for a striking combination and the capes add make the models feel custom and characterful.

Thank you all - I'm really happy you like them.  And don't worry, @Brother Christopher, I won't tell the chaplain - here, have this pamphlet on our Lord and Lady and Savior Slaanesh, and why he/she is right for you.

Its kind of funny about the cloaks - really, the only new EC models I'm familiar with (and have seen in person) are the ones I've built, so despite the effort that went into the conversions I keep forgetting, now that they are painted, that they don't normally have capes.   I'm also like that with cats - my own cat Grace is a manx who genetically doesn't have a tail, so I always forget that isn't the default and so when I see other cats I'm like "Oh yeah, cats have tails".

Glad you like our furry tyrant - that's a picture of her when she was barely an adult, she's not nearly that lean anymore.  Here's a more representative picture, of her during a game last summer involving my chaos space marines - apparently, the carnage tore the veil to the immaterium, and the great furred one manifested to observe, obtain pets, then depart as mysteriously as she appeared.

As for her being the four (legged) Emper(ess), she only has 2 cultists, but they are very devoted.  For those who are interested, I have more pictures of a young Her Grace-iousness here.

And here is with my recently finished Infractor squad

And from the back with just 5 of them.

From the back he's considerably plainer - I was going to put my red scales symbol, but wasn't sure how to do it with the folds (or even where to put it exactly, as the cloak is not symetrical) but seeing him with the unit is making me reconsider.

He went together fairly smoothly.  I had a fortuitous acciddent in the form of his backpack slaaneshi symbol - I hadn't meant to paint it like that and originally intended to paint it something else - that's just the incidental spray from doing his armour.  However, as I was painting him, I realized I quite liked it how it is and decided to leave it be.

That in turn made another decision easier - how to do his tassels.  First, I did them gold like those on my cataphracti kakaphonist, but didn't like them, then did them red, didn't like that either, then did them pink which I think works quite well.

Face was also tricky - I first painted it like a rebreather mask, but that wasn't quite working so I checking the GW store to see how they did the face - theirs is the skin pealed back from the mouth with the tubes going directly to his mouth.  I tried that, and that didn't quite work for me either, so I kind of combined the two and feel like it turned out pretty well - though I perhaps I should tone down the highlighting on his eyebrows.

I would say, if you leave his cloak plain, you should paint it turquoise. Then you could do a littlr pinstripe border in white. Should be easy to do even with the folds and it will make him look fancy. Just IMHO.

I'll have to think on the turquoise for the Lord, but I'm not sure even though I think it could look good.  For one, its a squad based colour and I'm not sure I want to link my leaders in that way to the individual squads.  The second is that the cloak and the bit on the front are both part of the same piece (its a wierd one piece toga/cloak thing), and I like it being white on the front for the same reasons I didn't want to make the squad cloaks the colour with a white stripe (versus the white with coloured stripe I did).  That said, if I do decide to work the squad colour onto my leaders, some turquoise on the cloak might look quite nice.

Now, these still need some clean up, but here are the stripes for my noise marines.

The reason there is the orange guy on the right is because I accidentally did the purple on a guy from my second squad rather than one of the blastmasters from the first.  I'll obviously be painting my second squad (and missing blastmaster from this one) right after CtA, but for now this does let you see the two beside each other.
