Deus_Ex_Machina
Over the last two years I have accumulated enough material to start my Stargrave campaign soon. The basis for this are Infinity Aleph minis and the base is supposed to be techy in design. To accomplish this I bought base toppers. And now to the question: How do I properly build the models, which are all metal, atop the base topper without ruining the surface of said base topper? The look I am going for this time is going to be squeaky, futuristic clean so there is no way to cover building mistakes with weathering powders or texture paint. terminator ultra
super glue? paint the feet and let it dry onto the base? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382670-basing-a-model-while-using-a-mdf-base-topper/#findComment-6032814 Share on other sites

It will come of, if you just glue the soles onto the topper because it´s too heavy. Firedrake Cordova
Old metal models on an MDF base topper for Inq 28 you say? Depending on how robust their feet are, the answer may be to remove the tab for the "slotta base", and to drill through the base into the foot and insert a pin. Remove the horizontal metal part so that you have short vertical stumps below the soles. Then drill precisely holes for the stumps. terminator ultra 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382670-basing-a-model-while-using-a-mdf-base-topper/#findComment-6032821 Share on other sites
tychobi
Metal models with no dedicated base attachments make for poor play pieces. A single pin for each model should suffice but pinning each foot would be better. I would do it before painting Deus_Ex_Machina, apologist and Firedrake Cordova 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382670-basing-a-model-while-using-a-mdf-base-topper/#findComment-6032842 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
As above, pinning, is by far and away your best bet. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382670-basing-a-model-while-using-a-mdf-base-topper/#findComment-6032862 Share on other sites
Xenith
Chiming in with pinning. My resin models don't stick to bases, let alone metal. Put a pin in the foot and drill into the base before painting, then slot it right in afterwards.
