MoriyaSchism
I'm looking for a rotary tool for carving material out of infantry models and models in general. The work I've done on cleaning up Plague Marines has involved a lot of time-consuming carving and scraping. Is there a tool people would recommend that would speed this up and make things a bit more precise? Solution Tyriks Posted April 17 Solution Share Posted April 17 Cleaning up as in removing mold lines and flash and such? Dremel makes a series of hobby tools called Stylo (I dont have it, yet, but I plan to get it) that looks ideal. I have a regular Dremel (cant remember the size, sorry) but it ends up being overkill on pretty much anything hobby related so I never use it. andes
I've found moto-tools to be way too much for miniature hobby stuff. They melt plastic far more than they route it. The Wowstick drill, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing... maybe someone makes a small-shanked routing bit it could handle. Tyriks
I do have a wowstik which is great for pinning. I don't know how it would do with removing matetial or anything like that, though. For example this Plague Marine used to have this weird elephant's foot mutation on one of his legs and it was obscuring all the armour plate detail. I spent 45 minutes carving away all the excess plastic and shaping it into armour plates. Removing spikes that overlap armour plates from the legs of Plague Marines as well. andes, Firedrake Cordova and Tyriks 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382733-dremel-or-other-rotary-tool-recommendations/#findComment-6035232 Share on other sites
Tyriks
Wow, that's dedication! I imagine that would be too much for my wowstik. Maybe some other model, but I would think something like the Stylo with some quality burs would be your best bet. andes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382733-dremel-or-other-rotary-tool-recommendations/#findComment-6035239 Share on other sites
