Welcome to part three of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Reiver Squad?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • Are you running multiples units?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What Deployment options are you using?
  • What wargear options are you using?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

Greetings, all!!

I think Reivers have some solid, solid play in BA - but only used in one real way.

Grappling hooks and grav chutes, with a Phobos Lieut.

For 140 points for 5+1, or the more pricey 225 for 10+1, used in either SoS or Gladius, these guys can act as some of the best objective stealers available to marines.

The "fire and fade" ability of the Lieut is not charge-restricted like every other version of this rule, meaning we can drop in 9" shoot, move d6" and secure a charge!!

On top of this, with the Librarian dreadnought, it means a first turn charge on an objective you want.  If you're playing tactical objectives and get a good draw, or you're playing second, this may be a worthwhile point swing for you.

In SoS (assuming oath + strat) you're looking at 11 damage vs 3+ save (that's 11 failed saves, not 11 wounds!!)  from 5 reivers!!!

In Gladius (Assuming oath + strat) you're looking at 4 damage vs 3+ if they drop AOC, and 7 if they don't (and given you can declare Honour the Chapter *after* he has to declare AOC, you could make this work.

Either way, you're looking at some fair damage against the troops, but you're looking at even better chances with them as character assassins!!

I’ve always said reivers are a bit better for blood angels, our increased ability to wound has always made them more interesting, particularly coupled with their movement rules.

i still don’t think they’re a “good” unit, but they’re certainly better than they otherwise would be.
