Hail Fratus.

Few weeks ago, I had experimented a scheme color for my Heretic Astartes 40K army.
I do LOVE the red color, but it's been too oftenly seen. Same with the black. And i don't like to paint black. Sorry @mikejagger.

So, i tryed a white scheme.

I thought that "Ghost Legions" would be an interesting name for such chaos army.

But it wasn't the kind of army I was finally expecting. Too clean, too white, even with dust and rust. So, I had to reset the job, and paint it again.
My idea of army wasn't really clear. I wanted something related to magic, close to Thousand Sons, but not Thousand Sons. Perhaps not yet.

I had already used heads from Rubric Marines on the Havocs. So, the colors had to be close. But not the same.

I imagined something related to Scarabs, like Egypt... So, the color had to be scarab style.

Here is the second version of my Heretic Astartes  (WiP) :

That's true, @Dr_Ruminahui, but after the picture with white termis, I had finished one of them, weapons and everything, and that's what decided me to change the color. I firstly thought it was a good idea, but color scheme - I personnaly think - doesn't fit perfectly to chaos minis I have in mind.
Should have taken a picture of this mini, but felt too lazy at the moment, so I just sent all of them to the closest cleaning center ...

I definitely prefer the blue scheme. Not totally blue, in fact. More like a scarab hull, which is perfect to me

While the walls are still in progress, and after a Kill Team game, opposing Chaos vs. Inquisition, I reminded that I had some Plague Marines somewhere on a shelve.

I love Plague Marines, and more generally painting chaos stuff. But I stopped this team, because one of the Marine was too ugly (not in the Nurgle's way, unfortunatly). And also, I needed an Icon bearer to play my KT the way I was expecting to play.

So, I needed another (beautiful) Marine, and an Icon bearer.

And this morning, I realized that I had enough bits to build the perfect team.

So, this is the idea I had for my Icon Bearer of Nurgle. I chopped partially the one I don't like.

This one is not beautiful, of course, but he is more in the way I'm looking for.

And at some point, you will have to explain what means "retro" paints .

Maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me, but it seems that the 1990's "red era" models tended to be a bit more "vibrant" and less "gritty" than the current schemes? I'm thinking of things like Dave Soper's predator he entered into Golden Demon...

Well, I remember Dave's Predator... I was used to follow his job on his blog.

Perhaps you're right, @Firedrake Cordova : those last years, I saw plenty of minis behind shop's windows, in very dark tones. It's like they had been painted with desaturated colors, very brownish, and at some point, quite dull. And, more than every thing else, as I am getting older, i don't see differences between minis when they are on the mat.

I've been very curious about this : why painting schemes so dark while minis are small, on a large table ?

As my eyes have been getting worse, I decided to change my colors : the yellow, red, green, all my colors were swaped for their clearer tones. In the same way, I undercoated minis in full white, while friends did the same job in black.
Sometimes I use slapchop technique, but even if it's quick, I don'tlike the result enough.

In a second hand, you are right : I always have in mind memories of those wonderful painted minis when I went to myprefered shop ! It was perhaps in 1985 or 1986.
In a time I was painting my first minis with enamel ...

I'm sorry for the orientation of this picture. My dad found out those minis and sent me the pic, I don't know how to rotate it.

Those minis where probably painted in 1989. Can't remember exactly. I just remember the magic...

They look good  Is there a group shot from a more "head-on" angle?

Here are some more close pictures. I have to work on the horns (i'm not very good with horns), and some more details.

Thank you @Rusted Boltgun and @Firedrake Cordova for your messages...

Today, I am working on the leftovers of the Boarding Actions box. I like this set ! I've been used to prefer buildings with high levels, but in the same way, corridors are very interresting to play with.

Now, i wonder if i have to paint hazard stripes on the top'of the walls and on the hatchway's Passages.
