Another week, and a few more excellent models., and a couple of new (both to this year and to Call to Arms more generally) participants.

@Boc - Awesome work on your 2 demon engines - they look great.  I'm always in in awe of the speed in which you can complete excellent models and you've surpassed yourself in that respect this time.

@Tallarn Commander - Great to see .your vow of bloodletters, and your work on them so far - they look very nice with their bone coloured flesh, with red heads and  steel swords and accessories providing a nice contrast.  May redemption be sweet!

@Kharn13 - Welcome to Call to Arms!  I look forward to seeing your Angron progress and be completed - if he's anything like your Scarbrand, you will not disappoint.

@gaurdian31 - Nice work on the possessed - and an ultramarine victim is definitely appropriate, and not just for word bearers - as seen as my own entry to CtA last year.

@Cryptix - Another huge vow, and this one with a huge model as well.  Looking forward to seeing how both it  and its littler companions turn out.

@Xin Ceithan - Your armour plates look great - personally, I don't think they need a green wash, and am worried that might diminish the current contrast between the steel trim and green plates.  Hopefully you can settle on your final green soon.

@Antarius - Forgot to ask you last time - any thoughts on a follow-up to your math deficient demons?

@Dr. Clock@Norman Paperman@Muskie@TrawlingCleaner ,@Bob Fossil@Scion@Ezekyle_Abaddon@Iron Father Ferrum@Brother Argent,  @Cpt.Danjou@legoman@Brother Nathan@Chainsword Cookie, and @Bonehead - hopefully you all are plugging long - we are almost half way done.

Myself, I've my defiler (and first vow) is now done.

And its various magnetized bits:

YJjx8Ni.jpg

And now for my second vow:

I, Dr_Ruminahui heed the Call to Arms and pledge to paint the following traitor guardsmen for 28 points for the Glory of the Realm of Chaos Forum and the Chaos Stronghold on or before 17th September 2024, or bear the badge of failure until years end.

- 1x enforcer          (5 pnts)

- 1x ogrynn            (2 pnts)

- 1x sorcerer          (5 pnts)

- 16x guardsmen (16 pnts)

Total                      28 pnts

7HgIwbl.jpg

This is going to be a big stretch for me - I'm going to have to be quite diligent to complete 19 models in 7 weeks.

@Grotsmasha - my first vow was to Heretic Astartes because I had intended to follow up with a bunch of raptors.  That didn't happen so it makes more sense that they all be realm of chaos as all of them (including the defiler) will be in that army's colours.  Is it possible to have both vows be to Realm of Chaos?  As far as I can tell, @Bonehead, the only (other) Realms participant, doesn't seem to mind (see this post and the next).  If not, its no big deal and I can continue on as Heretic Astartes.

Also Grotsmasha, any chance of @Antarius being able to include the 3 flamers he included in his "start" photo and painted, but missed in his math?

True, the Ultramarines like to make themselves the enemies of a lot of Chaos and Xenos groups. Also great job on the defiler!

Wanted to mention how great the defiler is.

Time to show a bit of progress- I'm a slow modeller and painter, and on top of that both my jobs and my side job have been busy lately. Nevertheless, the Malcador is finally ready for paint, beside one very minor touch.

Front showing crown of spikes (which will be painted to look like rusty old rebar with sharp points), extra stowage and dangling trophies:

20240729(3).thumb.JPG.476d92b8271bb8e117daca32bd963753.JPG

And sides showing chaos stars made of, again, rusty old steel with sharp points:

20240729(1).thumb.JPG.11fedcbe7c25470e87b8c94698d3bf55.JPG20240729(2).thumb.JPG.35400c412fa35dabac052cd15f65017c.JPG

Paint's going to start in this week. Like I said, I'm a slow painter, but I've got my practise in with two russes that look pretty damn good though I do say so myself, so with luck it should all go according to plan. Autumn camouflage, red hand details, suspiciously dark stains around the trophy helmets, paint chipped to hell and back and rust and mud all over. Maybe even some unit numbers.

Absolutely great work all around, folks! Chaos never disappoints

I'm getting there! The Purge Marines are done and the basecoats are done on the next 5 marines, Lord and Dreadnought. I did drop the Chaos Lord and I've lost his axe sadly but hopefully I can find it. The UK is quite warm at the moment so I'm not able to get much painting in but plugging away where I can

I was worried about that, too. But I set out to do some House Oroborn -esque Knight, so I have to see it through, I guess

I moved to the laundry room as the lighting is better so enjoy my models on top of my dryer lol

I shall push forward at hopefully a better pace now that the hard stuff is done.

Everyone's Chaos models are looking gorgeous!

I finished my 2014 Call to Arms pledge today. I present Voidrage, a squad of 10 Bloodletters.

Blood for the Blood God!

Time for a progress report! This past week I was on vacation visiting some relatives in Northern California, so I wasn't able to get as much as I'd like done, but I think I'm still on track. On the painting side, I got the first 20 bolter dudes done and the 10 special weapons were all built and painted as well.

20240804_094441.thumb.jpg.ac6a84923eab20da4e8f484a31e4c95c.jpg1000013633.thumb.jpg.b2ff3bf67f39103cbe666d52c1232bff.jpg

On the building side, we've got the first 20 cultists built. These ended up pretty quick to build, so I think I'm going to get the other 20 built up this week and try and get a quick batch paint on them taking advantage of slapchop + speedpaints.

20240804_094013.thumb.jpg.0936427738c99a1f8db654f0af047721.jpg

Later Edit: Also got the 10 Chosen Built this afternoon, leaving me with just 20 cultists and the havocs to be built on the infantry side.20240804_193939.thumb.jpg.fe7fd40a395d52e7e032fb6efbb841ea.jpg

Absolutely stellar work here folks! The Dark Gods will be pleased!

My vow is getting there! Chaos Lord, 5 more Legionaires and a Helbrute finished up!

Black Legion marines due up next I think!

I unexpectedly got to paint today. So I put various paints on the tubes. I plan to highlight them one last time after glazing the heck out of them. Then I'll touch up the armour and trim I imagine, definitely need to touch up the armour, then I can get on to the key bits of the model like the face and finishing the weapons.

IMG_8244.jpeg

Well to prove I am not just lying and am going to make some progress this year, I have completed the three Death Guard (or DIY Nurgle Renegades) part of my vow:

large.CallChaosAoDAfter.jpg.8caa8bcca1ec1d57c0db34e7d93b36bb.jpg.df0aabc493997f30f3ea2c574604bfb1.jpg

More photos can be found in my Argent Forge blog.  I am now moving onto my Slaanesh renegades.  But I must say its been ages since I painted Death Guard and I kinda enjoyed it.

This recap comes mid week as I had company for a week and wasn't able to sit down and focus on this.  Lots of good stuff this week!

@Grotsmasha - Thanks for shifting me over to Realm of Chaos, much more fitting for the models even if they do fall under the marine codex.

@Bonehead - Great to see your Malcador starting to come together - your build looks really good so far.  Really looking forward to seeing paint on it!

@TrawlingCleaner - Your plague marines look awesome!  Love how you have carried the black over from your corsairs to make them look like more of a cohesive force even though their colours otherwise are very, very different.  Your dread and legionaires are also great - you are really getting things done!  That old lord model is a personal favourite of mine, if a bit small these days.

@Kharn13 - That's a great base for your future work on your Angron - can't wait to see it!

@Xin Ceithan - The wash on the trim looks really good, really more yellow than green, which helps make it a visual contrast rather than the opposite that I had feared would be created by a green wash.  The plates are really coming together!

@Ezekyle_Abaddon - Your dreads and lord are fantastic!  Any chance of some closer ups on any of those (lord in particular).

@Tallarn Commander - Your bloodletters look great - the bone and blood colour scheme is really eye catching.  Do you have a picture of the front of the standard?

@Cryptix - You are just marching through those troops, and they look great!

@gaurdian31  - Your possesseds are really coming along - love the completed guy.  In the photo, the victim almost looks more space wolf than ultramarine (so, grey than blue) but that might just be the light - and in any event, is perfectly fine.

@Muskie - Your lord is coming along fantastically - both the flesh tubes and the armour highlighting are top notch, and its nice to be able to see some of the details on the banner.  The trim and fur are also looking very nice.  Can't wait to see him done!

@Brother Argent - Love the colour scheme on your plague marines - distinctive, but still very much in character.  They look awesome!

@Boc,  @Dr. Clock@Norman Paperman@Bob Fossil@Scion @Iron Father Ferrum, ,  @Cpt.Danjou@legoman@Brother Nathan@Chainsword Cookie - just over a month to go, so come let us know how you are doing!

As I mentioned at the beginning of CtA 2024, I will be running a "Lordiest Lord" type painting event - I will reveal the subject model/unit next week, giving folks a month to paint their own (if they haven't already - or paint another) if they want to join in.  It will be one of the units that's been most pledged in CtA so far.

Despite having company, I was able to get a surprising amount of painting in around the edges.  Done blocking in the main colours (so, the easy part) and just have some of the minor colours (leathers, metals, (non-fatigues) cloths, etc) before I do the touchups and wash.  So I think I'm on track to finish them all on time.

I think that might be because of the base and lighting, but he is a bit bluer in RL. Great progress on your traitor guard!

Great work on the Death Guard models @Muskie and @Brother Argent !

Normally would wait a bit longer before another update, but wanted an opinion. Not done yet, but not feeling great on the color of the robes, feels weird for some reason. Wifey said she likes it though, so turning for a third opinion.

Slowed down a good bit this week because of work, and traveling this weekend. Focus has been 99% on DA, and the Sorceror sadly turned into a completion check the box. Not really pleased how he came out, but he's done.

They look fine to me. They appear distinct from the arm (don't blend in) ... perhaps you're thinking they're a bit dark compared to the red arm, which is a lot brighter?

I should get going on the Rhinos in earnest this week coming now that I'm down to the final few hours on my infiltrators in a different Stronghold ; )

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Wash and drybrushing gone down a bit rough on the Malcador- for some reason the darker brow didn't want to drybrush properly. No matter. This thing is going to be drowning in chipped paint, weathering and rust streaks by the time it's finished.
