NTaW
NECRON UNIT OF THE WEEK SERIES Welcome to the Necron Unit of the Week series for 10th edition! Each week will see a different unit from the Codex, Imperial Armour, and Legends datasheets featured for discussion. The goal here is to discover and chronicle tactics for the featured unit so that new players and veterans alike can use this database to inform their strategies with the wider knowledge of the forum. The game of Warhammer 40,000 is ever changing though, and as the rules evolve throughout the edition everyone should feel free to return to older threads with the release of new FAQs/errata, changes in points values, information gathered from games played, and of course the Codex being released. These threads are also great places for newcomers to the Necrons to post their questions about tactics related to the featured units. Please note that the purpose of this series is not to lament what the current meta deems “ineffective”, or that another unit “does it better”. Those units will get their own threads. This week’s unit is: Night Scythe How many Night Scythes do you usually take in your army? What unit do you most frequently transport, and do you attach characters? Which turn do you choose to arrive on with the Quantum Invasion ability? Have you made use of the Invasion Beams ability? N1SB
Night Scythe was Unit of the Week weeks ago, but the Autumn 2024 Balance Update just dropped and this got added: Does this change anything? Are there shenanigans with the Hypercrypt Detachment...I don't even know if that matters for something as fast as this. NTaW
I'd like to think there's some merit in getting the Scythe where you want it for a unit to embark. Flyers can are fast but limited in how they get around somewhat and being able to choose your facing would also be nice. You can disembark on arrival as well, which combined with Quantum Invader could be a lot of fun. brother Vorn_GarDos
I dont' play often and I am looking for help in understanding the rules. Does the Quantum Invader rule typically mean the following: 1. can a player deploy the flyer on the board anywhere and move it during movement phase (following aircraft rules)? 2. can a player deep strike the unit on the first turn because of the quantum rule? 3. Is there any rule in necron codex that allow models to charge after disembarking from night sycthe? When Flyers arrive on the table there is no movement. You basically set them down on the edge they arrive at and point them in the direction they'll be going the following turn. This is the same for Deep Strike, except then you can arrive anywhere so long as you're 9" away from the enemy. 3 hours ago, brother Vorn_GarDos said: 2. can a player deep strike the unit on the first turn because of the quantum rule? Yes. I do not know how this interacts with tournament/matched/competitive play, but for all games following the Core Rules you may arrive T1. 3 hours ago, brother Vorn_GarDos said: 3. I'd say this is best suited to dropping shooting units somewhere they couldn't otherwise be T1. You could also do this to a unit via the Hypercrypt Legion if you went 2nd. End of opponent's T1 remove however many units you're allowed and off they go, perhaps arriving with the Cosmic Precision stratagem (which works even if you don't have Deep Strike).
