gideon stargreave
I got myself a skull from a part works build a skeleton magazine, so of course it’s going to become a life size servo skull. I’m currently mocking up ideas for silhouette and so on Rusted Boltgun, firestorm40k, Grotsmasha and 6 others 9 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/ Share on other sites
gideon stargreave
Not a lot of work done this weekend. It’s taking me an age to go through my scrap for bits. I’ve decided to ditch the jaw Stef Coudou, Dr_Ruminahui and firestorm40k 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6044815 Share on other sites
Brother Christopher
Looking good. Nice use of bits (are the antennae made from glue bottles/tubes caps?). Are you planning to paint it? There's a lot of work I need to do in order to make them look less like super glue caps I am going to paint it yes, using gilding liquid for all the metallics, and weathring powders etc. This is in very early stages at the moment, as I don't know what I'm going to do with the skulll pan at all. I'm thinking I might fill it with cloth and use it as a dice container, or I might add an actual candle to it. Unfortunately I don't have the top piece of the skull model, so I'm going to have to be creative. For the top piece, that's actually an interesting 'problem' which opens a lot of possibilities. You could use some styrofoam, which shouldn't be difficult to process, and try sculpting the top bone part or even replace it with a metal plate (I think the metal plate should be the easier option since you wouldn't have to worry about sculpting the sutures). 1 hour ago, gideon stargreave said: There's a lot of work I need to do in order to make them look less like super glue caps To be honest, I feel that they're okay-ish the way they are. They'll look appropriately once you slap some metallic paint onto them. You could add some more greebleing if you feel like it - guitar strings or other wires - nut I'm convinced that painting them will be enough. This is quite a unique project and I'm curious how it'll go. Regarding the use for it - I think just an amazing hobby project resulting in a cool display piece should be enough ;) Dr_Ruminahui 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6044834 Share on other sites
gideon stargreave
Thanks. The timing is quite good for greebles. I need to restring my guitar im thinking about some sort of metal plate too. I have a couple of interesting shapes that might work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6044843 Share on other sites

gideon stargreave
I added a few more details yesterday. It’s getting to the stage where I have to start doing something with the cranium firestorm40k, Rusted Boltgun and Dr_Ruminahui 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6045409 Share on other sites
gideon stargreave
I added a few more details yesterday. It’s getting to the stage where I have to start doing something with the cranium. The main addition was adding some internal detail to the screw port so it’s not just a void and reads as a machine spirit connector firestorm40k, Dr_Ruminahui and Rusted Boltgun 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6045633 Share on other sites
gideon stargreave
A quick prime to see what I’m doing. As you can see, there are mold lines, and the eye looks too much like cardboard. That’s no problem at this early mock up stage and is exactly why I added some spray. drakheart, Dr_Ruminahui, firestorm40k and 5 others 5 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383081-servo-skull-build/#findComment-6046395 Share on other sites
Brother Carpenter
What a great thread and idea. Loving the build so far! I second the metal cranium. You could replace the toilet paper roll with a piece of plumbing hardware, I think that would also be less fiddely. Really digging the lights. (You could try and see if you can add a liquid tight bowl to the inside for a refreshing (adult) beverage during gameplay?) And when finished, find a nice place in your room and suspend it from the ceiling (preferably with fishing line so it acts as an actual floating lamp?
