Mana
I started with the hobby in 2019 after a friend got me the Know no fear set from Europe. My first contact with 40k was when I was a kid looking at adverts in video game magazines, I really really liked the miniatures back then, but couldn't afford it, thankfully being older and having a job fixed that haha. I consider everything I paint a wip and don't varnish my miniatures, which I really should do, because looking at the photos, many are already chipping xD. Early with the first miniatures I painted, I discovered that I can't paint the same thing over and over in consecutive fashion, I need variation in my miniatures, which ended up meaning that I have painted some Dark Eldar, Space Marines, Death Guard, Chaos Space Marines and Imperial Guard. And in the backlog there are more Space Marines, more Death Guard, more Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Slaanesh Daemons and a Night Lord's Horus Heresy army. Never posted what I paint anywhere else, so this is a start, maybe as a way to motivate me a bit more (I'm a moody painter haha). So here is the last thing I painted, some Plague Marines (came in the boarding patrol, so I still have a Lord of Virulence and Deathshrourd Terminators to paint). This was the test model for my updated DG scheme: The cape in this one looks meh, still learning working with red colors: This one is one of my favorites, the axe arm was meant for a different body, but with minimal cutting it can fit anywhere, the only thing that I had to do was dry fit it first to make sure the legs wouldn't get in the way, a thing that happens with other bodys in the kit: The black hole in the helmet looks a bit bland, was thinking maybe painting it red, and making a glowing effect around it: The same as before, maybe a red glowing effect in the helmet...: And as a bonus the other Death Guard minis I painted in 2019/20 (maybe later on I will add some corrosion to them, and make glowing effects to the helmet lenses): Later I will post some classic (2004 plastic) Imperial Guard!! Crusader Reborn, Dread, Rusted Boltgun and 9 others 6 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383167-manas-wip/ Share on other sites
Corswain
Those look really sharp. Nice clean paint job, if such a word can apply to plague marines. Some nice effects scattered around too - great work! Mana
Thanks! I tend to paint most things in "vanilla" colors and style, I just like them that way. So, more minis! This time IG. All my Guard are old plastic kits, the new ones are fine (I think the heads are a bit too small), maybe later on when I reduce my backlog will I get more, with luck it will be a small Death Korps of Krieg plastic force. To start, my Company Commander, sorry I mean my Cadian Castellan. The first evident thing is, yes, I don't paint the eyes of my miniatures, I tried multiple times, but the result was horrendous. Maybe when I have better brush control or when I buy one of those magnifier lamps. Be warned, this will be a recurring thing in all my minis :P. An Imperial Commissar with his big hat and his red sash visible, as the Master of Mankind intended. Painting plasma continues to be a challenge, but I haven't given up yet! A squad of guardsmen, I painted 3 of these, but they all look the same, soft highlights, and unpainted eyes everywhere. Painted these when GW still sold the 5 man ETB cadians kits, loved those to bulk a force for cheap. I had a lot of fun with the Russ kit. Kit is magnetized for the turrets and the main gun, everything painted by brush (I personally don't like the soft finish an airbrush gives the cammo patterns). Next time some Chaos Space Marines! Kurgan the Lurker, Grotsmasha, Stef Coudou and 6 others 7 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383167-manas-wip/#findComment-6046961 Share on other sites
Rusted Boltgun
Love that Commissar, such fine details. I have that model primed but have never been able to commit. Mana
That commissar is great! Give it a try, was quite fun to paint. It's also quite different from the newer one with the closed coat. Mana
Just before the release of the CSM codex in 9th edition I gave in to FOMO and bought the SC box for CSM with the half of Shadowspear, the savings where too good. I was considering painting them as Black Legion, but as I paint most of my minis in "vanilla" paint schemes, well, I wanted to try something else, so I painted them as Emperor's Children. When the Eventual Emperor's Children Codex releases, I will just use them as a standard CSM warband (maybe they just had enough of Fulgrim haha). So I wanted to try the black trim and pink scheme, tested the paint scheme with 1 chaos space marine. I had to strip the mini 2 times, in the 3rd iteration I still wasn't satisfied, so I tried a very rough shading with Vallejo game color heavy violet, and liked the result. I painted the Venomcrawler in sub-assemblies, the highlighting of the black trim is just 1 color, I was very lazy. Highlighting black is a wip for me. The minis are monopose but many of the poses are kinda unique and can't be made with the multipart kit, so that's a positive for me. Looking at the photos the loincloths are very meh painted in red, I painted this last year I think. I still have to work on that and maybe one day I will paint eyes haha. I painted the right Obliterator first, was learning to paint skin. I consider the left one a better effort, still learning though. And last, the Master of Possession, great mini! Next time some Space Marines! Firedrake Cordova
Really nice work. The pinky-purple is extremely vibrant, and looks great on the venom crawler, and I like that the colour is reflected in the base Mana 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383167-manas-wip/#findComment-6048245 Share on other sites

I used some soft pastels from a local brand for the base, basically I used a hobby knife to make some pigments. Way cheaper than buying premade pigments from the usual brands, you also get a big selection of different colors, would 100% recommend. 6 hours ago, Stef Coudou said: @Mana, you've painted a beautiful army ! Thanks! In the middle of painting I wasn't so sure in the direction the scheme was going, but once i was more or less finished with the minis I was overall happy with them. Honestly I had more problems nailing the paint scheme than with the chaos trim of the models (Still, chaos trim can try anyone's patience :P).
