New BA rumour (Valrak).

Recommended Posts

Valrak is fine. I don't enjoy his content but if he's having fun that's fine.

Honestly I don't think we're going to get a massive set of Dreadnought options this edition. I could be wrong but honestly I suspect the focus is going to be on getting the infantry core updated this edition.

We might get a Death Company Brutalis as a unit option but I don't expect a kit for it. Not unless we get a vehicle specific kit in addition to the infantry kit we're expecting.

I agree about the Dreads. DAs have kept their custom units like their Speeders and Black Knights where there has been no clear update. I imagine our Dreads and the Baal Pred will remain for one more edition. The SG and DC are getting redone by the sound of things.

Ahh, Schrödinger’s upgrade sprue. We know it exists but not in what form.

I don’t think it would be too hard to make a BA specific Dreadnought sprue for the Ballistus that covers all our special dreads, but I agree it won’t be in this edition.

Yeah that's my hope in the future. A brutalis kit that's BA specific with an extra sprue that's got all the fancy bits to change out the sarcophagus to an appropriate one and then a force halberd and some different types of claws and a magna grapple and that covers most of the bases.

Completely possible.

The Brutalis really seems to be setting this up imho.

its basically just a furioso with more guns.

edir

that and the reaper is just a weaker version of the Baal, I see a lot of unique vehicles likely going the way of the dodo in the nearish future.

Honestly it feels like they're flattening the differences between chapters to make balance easier. Basically everyone has the same large core plus some bonus upgrades and some special units.

I don't hate it but I'm not excited by it. I have a bunch of old Dark Angels stuff that is basically unusable already so I stopped buying into the Firstborn stuff entirely.

Why do you think the reaper is a weaker version of the baal? He's lacking the flamer options, but the gatling cannons are a lot scarier than the assault cannons.

I like him a lot, even he's done nothing to justify the recent points hike.

Valrak had another video this morning mostly just confirming things he's stated before.

Sang Guard jetpacks are supposedly going to be very similar to Dante.  Not thrilled but I'm also not a wing die hard like mentioned before.

Astorath going to have similar pose, but the Lemartes was said to have a very "Wolverine", come at me bro, type pose.  Not as thrilled there as I love the Lemartes model as is.

Captain was reiterated as being very similar to the Devastation of Baal cover.  Could be nice as kitbash fodder.  Buy like 3-4 of em and get a couple of different heroes worth fo bits out of them stretched across the army.

Thinking about it again I'm probably very in favour of no wings now, especially if it will keep the inevitable whinging about them looking like Stormcast to a minimum.

My hope-against-hope was that we would see an upscaled Vanguard kit to go with the Leviathan Sternguard kit with the BA codex, there's still room for more elite, more expensive jetpack lads. I suppose the Sang-Guard fill that role well enough, just not as viable to spread around other marine forces. Ah well.

Come ooooon full Death Company box, not just bits! Come ooooon!

Vanguards Vets are coming back no sooner than the 11th Ed launch box.

Having watched the video:

- I’m sad sanguinor will keep his current pose, I’d have preferred a pose that looked like he was charging forward.

- I’m hoping the astorath pose is more like his art personally. Sounds like it’s a copy paste of current pose but his art pose is much better.

- lemartes in a wolverine pose… I guess it could work, need to see it really.

- the new captain sounds fine, technically don’t need more captains but I do love the blood angel style muscle armour so it’ll likely still be a purchase from me.

- sounds like death company get eviscerators, guess that’s cool. I really want to see the upgrade kit.

- our dreads sound like they’ll probably go the way of the dodo due to the brutalis. Sad from a nostalgia perspective, but I really like the brutalis so not the end of the world for me.

- I need to see the sanguinary guard. Depending on design they could be really nice

Nice that this stuff is coming but it all sounds OK rather than amazing. Maybe I will get a bit more hyped when I see some models. The DAs had a mix of redos and new units (the Lion, Inner Circle Companions). It sounds like we are just getting revamps. I was kinda hoping the Sanguinor would become a real Primarch-equivalent centre-piece model but it sounds like they are playing it safe and just doing a plastic update.

That sounds really like GW to be honest. Everyone has lots of DC, so toss in a weapon they never had access to before. Voila, urge to buy more stuff.

Thinking further, it's kinda strange that DC will get eviscerators, as they aren't in the general marine arsenal (anymore). Maybe they hand them the leftovers from the firstborn assault marines?

I mean, it's kinda strange that you reserve this weapon type exclusively for your lunatics. Did Sanguinius excel with an eviscerator as a sparring weapon or something?

Or did Cawl think that's a perfect fit? Anyway, I got carried away...

I quite like the Eviscerator as being available to the death company as a more expendable/losable version of a power sword that gives them more punch than a basic chainsword - At the point you are seeing all enemy as Horus, seeing any sword as Sanguinius' isn't a stretch and it gives a little 'Power Swords are valuable' back to the setting.

Here are the old Eviscerator stats from the Index Assault Squads. Slightly worse than a Power Fist but Sustained Hits 1 makes it an interesting prospect and would give the squad a reason to exist.

I guess the real question about how useful they’ll be will depend on how many a unit can take. 1 per 5 might be OK, but not great.

2 per 5 would be nice assuming 3 attacks each, you’re averaging at least one sustained hit if my rough bad math is correct.

Yes, the numbers will make or break the squad's usefulness. Assuming the current rumours are true, then the DC will be based on the AI and JAI squads. This assumes we will have the option for a Power Fist on the Serg. If the Eviscerator is an addition to this then even 1-2 would make the squad start to look an interesting proposition.

I don't understand how GW could simply do away with the Librarian Dreadnought that we have always had? If they do that, well .... stunning, and lazy-*profit driven. Same for the Death Company dreadnought. They could keep it in the rules and give it a template ruleset that could be applied to an existing primaris dreadnought. The furioso same. But I'd still provide a frag cannon arm for the brutalis dreadnought if making him into a Furioso.

*by profit-driven I mean they don't see it as making any money for them once they figure in the cost of designing the frag cannon arm and then producing it in a sprue? So they're just going to poop can these BA specific units.

My previous suggested solution was perfect, make a small Blood Angel Dreadnought upgrade sprue with some bits that turns any Brutalis into a Librarian, Furioso, or Death Company dreadnought. They can slap their $79.99 price tag on it and be done with it.

Not sure if I'm as eagerly anticipating the new Blood Angel stuff as I previously was?

The Libby Dread is a pretty recent addition, it only appeared in 7th edition IIRC. If Dark Angels can lose their Deathwing Command squads then I have no trouble believing we will lose our specialist Dreads. The Brutalis is a pretty good replacement for the Furioso/DC Dreads. It is only the Libby that we will really miss.
