Last week I looked into my glass cabinet and did not like the look of my Iron Empire (IE) models anymore. Something was off. After a few moments it dawned on me:

 

Lack of contrast.

 

The bases needed to be overhauled. But what to do instead? After a little bit of consideration I chose a desert theme because these amazons stumbled upon forgotten necromantic lore in some ancient pyramids. And pyramids are often associated to that of Egypt.

 

So I applied desert texture paint, added stones, colour-coded the units with coloured tufts for easy identification and applied a hefty dosage of desert dust. Here is the result:

What do you think? An improvement or not?

Yeah, I think the base changes do make them look better - really brightens up the models, and you may have had too many different coloured tuffs on some of them before, making them a bit too busy.
