INKS
So I finished this. Now I am torn between krieg. Which I never thought of but the horses are kinda cool and I love the artillery. Vs 30 khorne terminators or new EC. Guess it’s a wait and see right now phandaal and W.A.Rorie 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383319-indecision/page/4/#findComment-6082845 Share on other sites
INKS
I continue to struggle with this. lol I know. I had bought some votann, I am likely going to return them. I like the models, but they are small and difficult for me to paint. And on the table top... not overly thrilled. I am sure when we get their codex and maybe some more models I will go crazy again. I keep going through this Genestealer phase. I want them, I think about Cults, I love Abarrants, I like the necromunda ones. there is a new special anniversary that also has me excited. But I spent hundreds on paints (I wish I was kidding) and I still need about 80ish dollars in my currency in more paint just to paint them and that has sort of pushed me off them. Kreig or French Guard. I have been going back and forth on these. I was going to get them but the box sold out so fast locally that I gave up. Still one day I would love an infantry heavy army of them. I love the gun emplacements. I do love the dorn tank, the horses even I like. Eldar: New models coming out, I really love Banshees for some reason. they aren't new right when typing this but cool all the same, but on the table top they are hardly used and since money and time are limited, much like the above armies it's hard for me to justify models I love and just want to paint without ever playing with them, maybe one day. I had this cool painting idea of painting all of the new aspect like fire dragon all bone like the banshees and then inking and glazing over an orange / red or a green for scorpions and so on. This would tie the army into one bone banshee theme while giving hints of their aspects color. I think that would look cool and would love to do that one day. A kill team note, At the time of writing this, the B&C has a painting comp going on about Kill team and I've been trying to get a kill team I like. But really right now, and taking into consideration that a good deal of them are on less than 1 year left, there aren't any teams I really love. So I continue to wait. When I start to buy paints a few months ago it started with kroot, I wanted to paint them to look like mini predators. So I have those skin tones and colors. browns and yellows and so on. But that passed but now I have those colors. I moved on and I move in and out of wanting Custodes. But all gold to be honest is a little boring. Unless you are going to NMM them and I just don't have that skill sadly. But my next batch of paint was all golds and metallics, reds, and other colors needed for custodes. Then I wanted to do a purple colors votann but I explained all that above. So I have a lot of paint, all these mismatched colors. When I start to explore any of the armies above I need more paint, I am just missing flesh tones, or hair color and so on. So what did I decide. I finally placed an order for a Blade Champion and Aleya / Valarian. I've really been into sisters of silence. There size worries me. I really do need larger models at my age, my hands just aren't as good or steady as they used to be. It makes painting difficult sometimes. So Custodes / Sisters it is. This is where I am. I am going to paint the sisters and Aleya like Jenetia Krole - blackish blue armor and not the classic gold. I am not sure how much that will clash with the gold of the custodes so we'll see. I only needed 6 paints for hair and flesh, all the other paints I have and previously bought and this was a big part of my decision. On the table top I think I will like playing them. I know how their different detachments work, how to build lists and so on. I really want to make sisters work but they are lacking. this won't stop me from trying though. lol At some point I will need Rhinos and I am not sure what to do with sister rhinos, they are a little plain and boring... and gold rhinos look... bleh. so we'll see. My future hopes are this: 1: Kill team for custodes and or sisters, Sisters would be awesome, but I am not holding my breath. 2: More sisters released like 30k. This would be awesome, But in the mean time I also do like custodes 3: I think we kind of have to hope that 30k makes plastic dread and tanks for them at some point. who knows when this will happen, and I don't think it's this year. But regardless I am excited. Thanks for reading and following along. I’m seriously thinking of buying a whole platoon of these guys with the big earthshaker artillery pieces around May time this year as the prices are very reasonable. I prefer the GW tanks but the infantry look brilliant. INKS
I don't min 3d prints. I sometimes worry how stories will see them. sometimes they are fine with them in fact most times they are ok with them. sometimes not... it's a mixed bag sadly. But I will take a look at them thank you. always looking for cool minis. Norman Paperman
I’d bet you can save a lot of money on paint just by getting comfortable with mixing your own. I just counted and I have ~45 paints total and I paint a lot of chaos and 3 non-chaos AoS armies. You don’t need all of the different shades in the army painter colour range or all the stuff a tutorial recommends, you can make those on your palette well enough (if you’re not concerned about 100% accuracy, and I don’t think many of us are). I use my Vallejo deep magenta on literally everything, and mix it into all sorts of great shades with a bit of trial and lots of error. There’s some elements of personal style to this too, lean on the colours you really like! Like you, I want to bounce between a dozen different factions at a time, but I’m also not worried about playing so I just paint what I feel like from the factions I’m building up. I’d suggest that you’ve probably got enough paint at this point to sink a ship and have the colours on hand to do any scheme you want. I love buying paints, but I only buy one or two at a time, slowly, and save the big dollars for models. INKS
You are right, I could save a lot of money if I just learned how to mix my own colors. keep a journal of how many drops of this and that. But honestly that is just the type of work I am not interested in. It's just so much easier to buy a color and say - this is what I use rather than the expert way of mixing them together. I mean you still have to mix some of them together to transition highlights. just counted I have 24 paints with 3-4 more coming. That doesn't sound like a lot and one of them is a medium but 6.99 / 7.99 a paint in my dollars. It adds up. I agree with you though. I need to limit myself more. I could 100% do Krieg right now, or French guard. I could come up with something for Votann, I can do Custodes, mostly sisters of silence. I need some skin or hair colors. - but that is for variety. If I did all one skin tone and all one hair color then I don't need anything. I could do Banshees. Or any bone or Ivory. I can do any color leather I want. And so on. Eventually I get some blues or purple and I can do genestealers but not really a priority right now. Money is limited, we all know how that is with the hobby. I think I put too much pressure on myself to make every purchase count. I can't have like 4 different armies and some pile of shame because that feels wasteful. I would like to play come 11th edition. lol But maybe I should focus on kill team or something. I don't know. AOS skeletons really had me tempted but I don't know anyone who plays AOS locally. INKS
New problem. I am trying to paint a blade champion and the mini is too small for me to really see detail. lol man I am getting old. I might have to move to models or armies where they are large, like tanks or dreads or knights? I don't know. A blade champ is not what I would consider small but honestly it's hard for me to tell where to put paint.
