I got my ass handed to me in the invitational but I learned a great deal about nexus and how others are approaching it.

 

I believe the current meta is going to be driven by Sisters/Blood Angels/Thousand Sons at the top

 

Sisters (Bringers of Flame)

-Vahl + paragons destroy targets at will

-Celestine + Seraphim brick move 18" and flame then overwatch anything on foot

-Castigators focus fire and kill anything they can see

 

Blood Angels (Sons of Sanguinius)

-If they can reach you they will kill you

-Assault jump intercessors with character support punch way above their weight

-Sanguinary priests are priority targets

 

Thousand Sons

-Magnus kills what he wants

-Arcane vortex and tons of flamers mean overwatch kills anything on foot

I have made additional lists that tweak for different opponents and will test those as well

Variant 1 replaces Bjorn and Scouts with Hounds of Morkai + LT (can 1 shot magnus but still need to dodge flamers overwatch)

Variant 2 replaces Bjorn and Scouts to upgrade the predators to vindicators (shrug off flamers and direct blast magnus)

A Convent of order minoris formed from the "true" Argent Shroud on the Archive World Alexandrum in the Atilla System, they are led by an order militant known as the "Constantinople Shroud" and contain two other minor orders: an order pronatus, in charge of holy relics, known as the "Hagian Shroud" and an order Dialogus, in charge of secret knowledge, known as the "Sophic Shroud" which all work together to collect and protect knowledge and relics of not just the Ecclesiarchy, but also of the Ordo Hereticus. They have their own secrets to protect in addition to inquisitorial and ecclesiarchal secrets on this world of records located on the other side of the rift - they are in reality the remains of a Drukhari noble house that became biologically human after fleeing Vect's take-over of Commoragh at the end of M35! After a few centuries of wandering the webway, they decided to investigate the potential of monkeigh faith to keep their souls safe from She Who Thirsts. I win the roll to go first and draw engage + assassinate

LRR and bottom predator advance left into position

Combi LT steps on objective and prepares to hide

LRR can fry anything coming in on foot and I can reactive move away from a vehicle trying to shoot me

 

Scouts push up and charge into immolator to road block...I lose 1 in melee

They will keep that immolator pinned against the wall for the rest of the game...so I won't mention them again

 

Scouts get me baby engage and I toss assassinate for a CP

LRR uses Armor of Contempt and a CP reroll and bounces all incoming shots (including 4 hunter killers)

If ANY of them got through he had a bunch of miracle 6's lined up for damage rolls

He made 1 major mistake when he shuffled his army to attack me...Vahl and friends were exposed

 

I pick up callidus before my turn

I draw bring it down + locus

 

Callidus will drop middle and locus + vect his tanks

 

I activate dev doctrine and plan out where to bring in the hellbomb

The terrain is preventing me from avoiding his overwatch completely so I just get outside 18" of 3 warsuits

He rolls a natural 6 and miracles another for his multi melta overwatch

2 HB vaporized

I get lucky and save 5/6 Vahl shots (damage 2 each would have annihilated me)

 

Lose 3 HB to overwatch

2 fire on death and I punch 2 damage through before removing them

 

I activate storm of fire and have bad luck despite OATH being active

The 6 remaining hellblasters don't roll many sustained hits but I get 12 total wounds through 

He fails MOST of them and the LT and his master crafted bolt rifle get 2 sustained hits and 3 total wounds to finish off Vahl

 

He is ready to concede at this point but we agree to go 1 more turn b/c he needs to practice how to come back (opponent is a friend and scrimmage partner.  We used to be on the same team but he does RL events and I am all digital).

 

In addition to the hellblasters I pushed up ALL my vehicles aggressively

Combined predator fire drops a castigator on the left flank

He pushes up aggressively with the last tool he has....celestine and flamers

He also advances and uses strat to disembark his SB dominions to kill my jump AIs

I rapid ingress bjorn into the giant hole he left in the top right...I was hoping to bring bjorn in next to my predator originally but he pushed his dominions far up

 

He shoots with celestine and friends first to wipe out HBs

I tell him that was a major mistake in activation sequence....5/6 HB fire on death and wipe out the dominion squad

This saves my jump AI from taking any damage

 

The far right predator eats a miracle melta and small arms fire but survives with 2 wounds 

LRR eats a melta at close range and is down to 7 remaining wounds

I draw cleanse + marked for death

He picks the immolator on far right + 2 units on his home objective

He wants me to leave celestine alone 

 

I oath the immolator and will do what he wants...the melta guns on his tanks are the last thing I have to fear

 

I activate assault doctrine and run both AI squads into the middle...full rerolls to wound against his tanks

 

Assault intercessors melee + predator + bjorn shooting wipe out all his seraphim leaving celestine alone

Captain vehement with no buffs other than his enhancement and super saiyan finest hour smashes the immolator (10 S10 attacks rerolling full wounds v T10 tank)

Ragnar gets lance + AP and singlehandedly smashes the castigator

 

Everything basically goes right for me and he concedes 

1 immolator remaining but it is boxed in b/c scouts

 

We talk the remaining turns out and go over mistakes in the game

I was nervous as hell when I lost 3/9 Hellblasters to overwatch but the RNG balanced out

Every unit I added did what I expected it to do

 

On to round 2...and will see how I fare against non sister lists

 

 

 

Well this is a very interesting take on Gladius! Personally, I'm partial to Vindicators since those guys served me so well in the past.

 

Looking at your game and how well the HB Bomb worked out even after taking casualties makes it quite enticing to try it myself. My regular opponent plays sisters, but with a pressure heavy, mass Walkers list. LRR and HB should do well against those. Playing RG so I think I'll give Shrike+VV a second chance with access to Lance and +1 AP, this might actually make them work.

I just need to avoid his charges

I was hoping infiltrators would live and then hop back into my LRR.  That would let me charge and screen out his sanguinor counter.  Need to play more careful now

I push middle predator up and left onto the point next to scouts but it fails shooting and 2 scouts live

I am forced to charge in and tank shock but get 5 mortals and wipe the squad

I need to be aggressive and clear his screening chaff so my hellbomb has room to drop later in the game


LRR flames middle and kills all the jump AI


TWC on right side move up charge and kill oathed scouts then consolidate onto the point to deny primary

*I hate TWC jail lists but having a small utility unit has proven effective after testing

Draws marked for death (ignored it b/c my combi LT and callidus in rear + LRR are unkillable) and sabotage

Pushes up hard on right flank to make sure my TWC die

5 man DC and 5 man jump AI move in for kill

VV brick follows behind them to sabotage

 

Left flank the last jump AI pushes in to take objective and kill predator

 

I decide to rapid ingress my hounds on the right flank. 

The wall blocking LOS makes it hard to do my normal pop out and charge trick...so I need this to get in close

I bring them in at 12.1" so they are safe from a random charge

 

He manages to kill my TWC and predator units with no stress

Before my turn I pick up the callidus.  He left me a huge hole in the middle

 

I draw secure no mans and no prisoners

I have a small DC and 2 AI units I should be able to kill

I need to clear his right flank but don't want his damn VV heroic intervening into me....I oath them and will fight on death if he comes in

 

Left predator drives up to touch objective while middle predator draws LOS to kill the left jump AI off while pulling back safely out of charge range

 

LRR pushes up and barely gets on objective while having 12" range to far right jump AI

Hounds walk up 6 and prepare for mop up duty

 

Rest of my movement is to push back his potential rapid ingress with Lemartes and DC brick

I do a decent job and he brings it in left side to go after the LRR

If he wants me he has to eat overwatch first

 

Shooting kills both jump AI no problem

 

Hounds manage to battleshock the VV brick after shooting and deny the HI

However...Hounds whiff into DC with melee and 2 survive (crap!)
 

I realize I have gone another turn not using any doctrines...oh well

DC kill callidus with inferno pistols and charge LRR
I overwatch and kill 4 (this is scary because Lemartes reduces dmg by 1...but I land a MM and a few other small arms fire and it all adds up)
I use AOC in melee and take 6 wounds only 

Sang guard move up and kill left predator in melee
VV move up and kill hounds on right side

Storm hostile + defend stronghold

 

Meh...focus is on killing not secondaries

 

ACTIVATE DEVASTATOR DOCTRINE!!!

I place oath on the sang guard and drop my hell bomb bottom left corner

I roll real bad for hits and only get 6 sustained

I get lucky on wounds and he has to make 19 5+ saves after storm of fire + overcharge plasma 

I smoke the entire sang guard + captain and lose 1 HB to hazardous

 

I place LRR into tactical doctrine so it can back off and shoot

 

Predator drives onto the left objective and maintains LOS to add firepower to the party (it whiffs on the Lemartes squad and kills a single DC)

LRR fires HK and 2MM at 2 surviving DC the hounds failed to kill and everything else at Lemartes and DC

Kills all DC leaving Lemartes alive

 

I have no CP for a tank shock and am scared to charge in...I want to be free to overwatch and flame

I chicken out and don't charge in

 

I score storm hostile thanks to Predator on left but defend stronghold is in danger

He uses rapid ingress to bring Sanguinor near my home objective

Lemartes runs away to the left objective and nades my predator but fails charge

The game is REAL close still

 

I draw cleanse and keep defend

 

I activate ASSAULT DOCTRINE

 

I have to remove his gdamn sanguinor but he fights first.  I send in ragnar and dedicate 2 CP for fights on death 

I get lucky and 1 AI survives

Ragnar + friends kill Sanguinor and retake my home objective

 

LRR moves up after dropping off Ragnar.

LRR cleanses while the judiciar hops out to charge enemy home objective (6" away)

 

I roll a 6 for hellblaster advance and they get LOS on Lemartes.  If they fail to shoot him they will charge in 

They plasma the bejesus out of him 

 

Predator drives up and cleanses left objective now that I know hellblasters can clear Lemartes

 

Judiciar makes the charge but the nearby intercessors HI and try to stop me from stealing the home objective

I put 2 judiciar attacks into infiltrators on the objective and everyone else into intercessors

 

 

I only kill 3/5 intercessors (AOC saved him from the PF and Judiciar swings)
I lose 2 AI in his swing backs

Uh oh...I didn't take it from him

Gdamn nailbiter of a finish but I pulled it off

 

This list is now 2-0 (round 1 I faced Ksons but he just conceded b/c I have hounds and he had a busy schedule so it wasn't worth playing...I had just done a scrimmage against Ksons before entering the list and won so I figure its all even)

But yes...Hounds of Morkai are a hard counter to basically everything in their list

 

Hounds will 1 shot Magnus without breaking a sweat

 

The Ksons can potentially overwatch and torrent the hounds to death with arcane vortex (if they don't battleshock due to Hounds howl ability)...but predators and a hellbomb cut through rubrics like a hot knife through butter.  So they trade their 2nd best unit in the process

 

It is a very favorable matchup for my list

Holy crap I was NOT expecting that level of aggression and left a tiny hole for his callidus

His Callidus puts 3 dmg on my callidus but fails charge...phew...almost died there

I weigh my options and decide to go into kill mode

The infiltrators on left do a baby contain while everything else will focus on attacking or zoning out his rapid ingress

 

I activate DEV DOCTRINE and oath his telemon on left

I get 1 predators + LRR lined up on the telemon

I drop in the hellblasters as well

I put the Captain against the wall to move block his potential rapid ingress and charge

 

I move right side predator + scouts and combi LT towards callidus to deal with it

 

Left predator lines up shots on the terminators next to Bjorn

Bjorn gets placed into tactical doctrine to fall back and then charge in after firing


He brings in EVERYTHING with rapid ingress

3 venatari + warden brick

 

2 hunter killers and 2 lascannons into my oathed telemon do a grand total of 0 damage (he made every 4++)

Hellblasters manage to put 6 wounds on...that was a disaster

 

I kill callidus and all the terminators except captain with shooting...captain has 4 wounds

Bjorn charges and does 0 tank shock damage (I do 3 damage so needed to chip off 1 more)

Captain survives with 1 gdamn wound after making his saves and hits Bjorn for 4 damage after FNPs

He falls back from Bjorn and spends 2 CP (vect tax) to fall back and charge with his 1 wound captain

After debating whether he should risk a 10" charge into predator and try to score marked for death he just goes after Bjorn

 

Telemon puts a few wounds onto LRR then charges into Bjorn along with the captain

I have 2 CP so he has to choose what he does carefully.  He starts with venatari on far right and puts everything into captain 

Captain uses finest hour for 1 CP thanks to rites of battle and fights on death

I am forced to split my attacks b/c I was spread out blocking the wall.  Captain + PF + 1 AI kill an entire squad

The remaining 3 AI put enough chainswords through to kill 1 venatari from the unactivated squad.  They reduce the attacks my LRR has to survive by 5. 

He barely puts a dent into LRR with his 2 models
Good job Captain and AI!!  Your sacrifice was worth it and I hold the point and can keep flaming away

 

He activates captain with 1 wound and tries to kill Bjorn

I use my last CP to AoC and only take 2 damage 

Bjorn kills captain in swing back and ignores the telemon for now

 

I lose hellblasters + DP + infiltrators + captain and AI that turn

Bad news for him is the LRR and Bjorn survive

I start to pull callidus but he tells me marked for death will score...I leave her on the field

I pull scouts instead and bring them back to form a picket line in front of predator and keep it safe from a charge

 

I draw secure no man land + Area denial

He has half his army in the middle...area denial is denied and will just give me a CP

 

I decide to oath his guard on the left and focus them down with 2 predators

LRR and right predator line up on as many targets as possible

Ragnar + friends hop out to kill 2 venatari hugging the LRR...the goal is to hop right back in after using squad tactics as a reactive move

 

I use NO doctrine b/c nothing is needed

 

In the shooting phase I ask if he wants to use his once per game Warden FNP

He activates it...that means I will ignore them and shoot my guns at everything else


2 predators go crazy and I use storm of fire with the 2nd to kill all his guard on the left...the blade champion survives though

Predator autocannon with storm of fire means AP2 and forces him on his 4++....3 damage means every fail is a dead custodes....it was good shooting

 

Bjorn fires and swings away in melee but fails to put down the gdamn telemon

 

LRR and predator combine to finish off the 3 man venatari squad leaving wardens alone in the middle

 

Ragnar charges in and fails to kill 2 venataari...the survivor kills 3 AI in return and leaves LRR tied up

I'm fine with her not being able to uppy downy b/c it is preventing him from scoring any secondaries

I auto pass morale so I only die on a 1 or 2 when I fall back (I roll a 3)

They are here to kill high wound infantry and got to show off today

They wiped out custodians + wardens with a gdamn predator autocannon

 

Yikes! -1 dmg is a hard counter to the hellblaster bomb! An the Redeemer's flame canon too now that I think about it. Still, you managed to push through and score high enough for the Win. Predator Autocanon are a sleeper weapon IMO. For the cost, they can wreck an opponent's plan big time if they underestimate it's efficiency.

Every combo has pros and cons

 

I loved aggressor bomb bc 1 dmg wasn't hurt by these types of defensive tools

 

But there are games where the AP makes a difference and performs better.

 

For example..in a scrimmage when I tested vindicator list my hellbomb killed Canis Rex turn 1 and then shot a few 2+ save katellan robots on follow up turns where the AP was a big deal

 

In fact...my next game is against iron storm with 2 vindicators and 2 repulsor executioners 

 

Predators not gonna be ideal there and  gonna need the hellbomb AP

SW loss

 

He went first and was only able to get 1 vindicator LOS on my vehicles

 

I failed 5/5 4+ saves with LRR v vindicator and he rolled exactly 16 damage to pop me.  That absolutely destroyed my midfield plan to deal with his dreads.

 

In a subsequent turn he got his long charge into my HB with his dread and slaughtered my best anti tank unit that was hidden from guns

 

Meanwhile my predators bounced off his smoked/AOC vindicator and did 0 dmg

 

 

Game exposed a flaw in my list.  My predators can't handle that type of vehicle skew well

 

I think my vindicator list would have had much better odds

Pregame

I decided pregame that his guns had low enough AP that he didn't scare the LRR or vindicators

His melee threat could easily kill me though

So I made his advance/charge super mobile NDK suits my main concern and Canis was second

 

 

Batrep

Wasn't able to do my normal screen shots and note taking b/c we played on a clock

 

Best news was he won the roll to go 1st

 

This would let me play defensively to knock down his primary knowing I had an easy 15 on turn 5

 

Turn 1 I drew assassinate and it ruined my pregame battle plans

I dropped my hellblasters to kill a Grand master NDK instead of picking off one of the 3 advance + charge NDK

 

The good news is he exploded when he died and put a bunch of wounds on the NDK next to him...and when he shot my hellblasters to death on his turn I fired on death and managed to kill a NDK so I was happy with the game state

 

My opponent had trouble getting LOS/range on me all game.  We had multiple turns where we didn't even shoot

He exposed Canis Rex on top of turn 4 and I finally moved my vindactors out to shoot

LRR + grenades from TWC + 1 vindicator managed to kill Canis

Judiciar charged and finished Sir Hector as he tried to run away

 

The extra unit of scouts was really useful screening my backfield.  I had to prevent a 3" drop from a solo model librarian

Infiltrators had huge denial bubbles on 1 flank and then I had scouts spread out blocking the other flank and didn't care if he shot them b/c I could return fire with vindicators

SW Victory!!!

 

Early in the game he said "I hate those vindicators I don't want to move out" and I laughed and told him I was glad to hear that. 

The improved gun and killing power of the vindicator is the entire reason I made this list and swapped from the predators

 

 

I have now played 3 straight matches on E7 and everyone complains about the map.  The LOS and movement options are very awkward.  This was the first game I put my LRR on the right flank and it seemed much better.  I need to remember that for the future.

Vindicators for the win!!! Congrats on the win. I'm really hyped to read your report with this iteration of the list. I have a feeling the Hellblasters, Vindicators and Redeemer complement each other very well and cover almost all kind of targets while the rest of your army can score and bully objective holders. I'm curious about your choice of including a min-sized unit of TWC though. What's the reasoning for this unit?

Vindicators for the win!!! Congrats on the win. I'm really hyped to read your report with this iteration of the list. I have a feeling the Hellblasters, Vindicators and Redeemer complement each other very well and cover almost all kind of targets while the rest of your army can score and bully objective holders. I'm curious about your choice of including a min-sized unit of TWC though. What's the reasoning for this unit?

 

The TWC were an experiment.  I had 100 pts and figured they would have decent synergy with the rest of the list. 

 

I used them as sacrifices to initiate a trade in most games.  They have OC6 total so they can steal objectives from many things (bully them like you said) and with their defensive profile they can stand on the middle objective and survive trash thrown their way.  If my opponent commits a powerful unit to kill the TWC then my vindicators + hell bomb can alpha strike the powerful unit and I'm ahead in the attrition game.  Turn 1 I would usually send the TWC or scouts out into danger and my vehicles kept safe.

 

Their MVP move was helping me win the sororitas game.  I was losing and needed a hail mary.  TWC sole survivor who had lived against a 3 man repentia charge move blocked Vahl + paragons to keep my hellblasters safe from being charged in melee.  He then casually tossed a grenade and got 5 kills to finish off a dominion squad that had survived a vindicator and lost 1 model.  The dominion MM squad + attached character are BONKERS.  They get 2 auto 6 dice and have sustained built in.  Even overwatch results in a minimum of 4 MM.

Removing that unit kept my vehicles alive 1 more turn and was enough to swing the game back in my favor.  The sisters player I beat ended up getting 5th place

 

I think they were definitely worth the points over the course of the GT...I'm removing them to squeeze Bjorn in my next list and it made me sad.

Ah damn! Missed the Stream yesterday. Congrats!!! 3rd place is actually quite good in the current meta. I ran a similar list recently against Sisters and boy! It's fun to have a delete button ready to be deployed anywhere on the map! In the end, what faction/list was able to counter this iteration of the list? Anything you would change if you had to play this in another event?

This list seems fine tuned already...I was comfortably in every game

 

My loss came because my callidus failed to kill a gdamn enginseer on turns4/5

 

I shot charged and fired overwatch when he disengaged (1 rerolled into 1 for number of shots) and it lived with 1 wound

 

I failed to score Assassinate and he used enginseer to cleanse bc he was alive in the perfect spot turn 5

 

That flipped the game

Eh, nothing to be done when this happens. How was the Callidus Lord of Deceit rules? Has it come up often or is it just a nice bonus now? What about the Thunderwolf Cav? Only three models and no character support, my guess is they are there to screen, score and delay but would another Assault Intercessors with jump pack unit do the same thing for cheaper and maybe be a little better at it? You're not known for your love for TWC so if they're there, it must be for a good reason.

the TWC did work and although they are pricy the 4++ and high T made it better than jump AI
