Deus_Ex_Machina
What kind of baking powder turns white basing material yellow over time? I am soon going to put details onto a winter base and therefore I need to avoid this pitfall. Urauloth
All baking powder can do this. Highly recommend investing in some snow flock or a pot of Valhallan Blizzard. Firedrake Cordova
I know it's not what you asked, but ... Valhallan Blizzard might not be the cheapest material, but it is basically "cheat mode" for snow bases. There are a few other products out there - some of which are cheaper, and some of which are more realistic - that it might be worth looking at. Kathy Millat did a round-up, and this thread might be helpful. sbarnby71
Can't agree more with Valhallan Blizzard, thing I love is straight from the pot, fluffy snow, add a little bit of water and you can create slush to have a tramped effect. And I find less is more, don't drown your bases in snow, just a few bits here and there give a better effect than it looking like a Christmas cake. I use Eshin Grey dry-brushed with Ulthuan Grey for my bases, then a few dabs of Valhallan Blizzard. sarabando
baking powder turns yellow over time, however you can slow it down by mixxing white paint in and varnishing it. jaxom and Deus_Ex_Machina 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383380-winter-base-quick-question/#findComment-6053702 Share on other sites

Saves money on technical paints and looks better in my opinion. White paint is notorious for going “cakey” when dry brushed, which is generally considered a bad thing and can be avoided by having a slightly damp dry brush. However, this can be used as an advantage, using it similar to powder pigments with a very dry brush and stippling. Better buy AK scenic stuff or any other Company that does sell that stuff as they are a lot cheaper. MithrilForge
AK has some really good snow Products - terrain snow Base product(AK 8011), Micro balloons AK 8010(to simulate the top layer),and Ice sparkles AK 8037 (to get that glittery look) along with their wet mud you can make some really nice winter bases...that won't change colour on you * Kids - never eat the yellow snow.
