Does this really count as news? Like there's no new information here, and there's still tonnes of time before the deadline. It feels like IGN trying to drum up clicks with boarder-line fear mongering during a slow news week.

Agreed. Most likely in response to the numerous fake rumors that Cavill had quit or the show/movie was scrapped that came out in the last month. The agreement still has six months before it is invalidated by time, so there is a lot of space for the two companies to work with.
