Deus_Ex_Machina
The weather is fine and it is pretty hot. So what does a frater do? Go to a public bath? Nah, he is crafting terrain of course as the warm conditions are crucial for the quick drying of the used components. Here we go: https://ibb.co/album/7kvFg9 The two large pieces will become woods. The trees will be planted on top of the bases and the bases will be magnetised so that they will fit onto the terrain which then can be removed for storing. And the other four smaller pieces will display large rocks as shown. Firedrake Cordova
Sounds like a good plan. I do love winter-themed boards and models ... Deus_Ex_Machina
Update: Two layers of sand has been added to the forest and rock bases. Furthermore texture paint has been added to the tree bases. Edit: The trees were bought from a model train shop over twenty years ago. They are mostly a little bit too small for 28 mm action although they have the benefit of not running the danger of being knocked over when players reach across the board due to their low height which is a bonus in practicality. And even if I should decide to buy larger ones in the future there is the possibility to switch them out because of the magnetisation. Deus_Ex_Machina
Update: Good and bad news for this thread. I have finished the terrain pieces but ran out of snow for some of them. This is a little setback but not the end of the world. One of the forest pieces has very little snow and all the tree bases have zero snow. For perspective I have included the 40K Guy. He requested to be on the pics to show off his camo armour. What a diva! Let him know, if he picked the correct scheme. https://ibb.co/album/7kvFg9 As fantasy models are not allowed on B&C I have created a second folder for the Yaktribe forum. There I have used the Reaper Ice Queen as the model for perspective. That particular folder will be posted in the subsection of "What´s on your mind" on Yaktribe. Deus_Ex_Machina
Update: The forest features now snow as well as the trees: https://ibb.co/album/7kvFg9 Furthermore ice crystals have been made out of resin and five 25mm bases for the Dungeon Guards (Brother Vinni; can´t show the minis) have been finished. Five girls so far are swimming right now in a bubbly bath. In addition creatures for Frostgrave and my upcoming Frostling army for Hobgoblin have been finished. These are special because they also feature ice bases but built in a different style: https://ibb.co/album/7NcPCw Keep in mind that those models are sold in 40K boxes and are therefore legal to show. If you guess the identity of those models before taking a look then you win as many fridges as you can carry. Firedrake Cordova
The terrain looks good and I like the snowy Fenrisian wolves, but their icy bases are great Deus_Ex_Machina 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383412-winter-terrain/#findComment-6057099 Share on other sites
Deus_Ex_Machina
More raw materials have been bought for future projects. What is planned? Ruins and hills. https://ibb.co/album/nggsgw Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383412-winter-terrain/#findComment-6058345 Share on other sites
Deus_Ex_Machina
Work has begun on a hill with trees: https://ibb.co/album/nggsgw The hill will be modular with magnets. At the corners of the sections a base with a single tree will be placed and hold in place by magnets too. If I then want to have a smaller hill then the top sections can be removed and on top of the now exposed magnets can then be attached even more tree bases. Firedrake Cordova
I like the idea of the modular scenery. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383412-winter-terrain/#findComment-6059867 Share on other sites
Deus_Ex_Machina
Update: The hill with trees has been finished. There are however bad news as imgbb is not working. All attempts to upload pics is followed by an Error message. Maybe it has been given the rest of the day off because of excessively hot weather. As soon when it´s working again I will show the result here. Edit: Here you go. https://ibb.co/album/jyJsBW Edited August 30, 2024 by Deus_Ex_Machina Firedrake Cordova 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383412-winter-terrain/#findComment-6060973 Share on other sites
