After their long absence from the galactic stage, the Leagues of Votann have returned to Warhammer 40,000 with millennia of knowledge stored in their hyper-advanced Votann cores, armed with powerful STC weapons lost to the Imperium during the Age of Strife.

About time Black Library!

it was a complete mistake not to have a novel out with the first wave but at least we got there.

I’ll definitely aim to get the standard edition, but I’m with @VanDutch, the typeface is a bit dated. Always happy to experiments with cover design to keep things fresh but it’s not the choice I would have made.

Wow, they pulled that title font right out of the 90s didn’t they.

THIS SUMMER...

In a galaxy where there is... *Drum Beat*

Only War(tm)...

Once again, it's not the Greater Thurian Leagues being represented here, but the Trans-Hyperion Alliance again.

While it makes sense with Killteam to paint the LoV teams as the orange and black Sub Faction rather than the "main" one, it's interesting that it's THA stealing the spotlight once more.

Gav Thorpe mightn't be BL's best author but he isnt the worst. He has come up with a lot of background for a lot of races so he is a solid choice for this.

That being said, I'd have preferred ADB or Abnett.

Bold choice to put a beardless dwarf on the cover of the first Leagues of Votann novel!

Even bolder to have Thorpe write it.

He may have written one or two good books but he's produced more poop than our dog after she's found leftovers for eating.

Someone said he's not the worst writer. I'd be curious as to who is.

Sorry for the negativity but he really is a woeful writer.

I don't know, this feels a bit rude/ott?

Anyway, while I agree not my first pick, I still have a lot of love for Gav trying experimental things (that don't always land but sometimes do) and also of course for Gav the games designer of our youths (ie Inquisitor, Digganob, and many things in wfb and 40k). He also lives and breathes dwarfs, so makes sense for the Votann too.

I had no issues with him on the game design front or codex writing, but the novels I've read by him have been really awful. Going from ADB in the heresy series to one of his books... the contrast was so stark. The indomitus book was also really badly written.

Sorry if it feels rude but I find his writing to be dull and nowhere near the likes of McNeil, ADB and co.

Money's Paw for sure.

I really like his codex work. His long form prose though... Let me just say those books were a slog.

And don't even get me started on the lore with Azrael and the Chalupa.

You cannot tell me that dwarf would not be cooler with a beard, or even a sick Magnum PI mustache.

Edit: see? Even Black Blow Fly agrees with me. Wait. Even... Black Blow Fly...

Nevermind, I'm on Team Hairless now.

Being afraid of facial hair on their girlboss dwarves is a weird line for GW to draw.

That is a lady? I honestly couldn't tell from the picture.  Just figured GW did the whole "no beards to get in the way of the helmet seal" thing.

To be fair, even Gav will struggle to character assassinate a faction that just got out. He will try though.

We ARE talking about a guy who managed to murder the one bit of existing lore for the Dragonspears chapter by making them a pre-Ultima chapter simply so that they could meet  with Krom DragonGAZE in a scene immediately prior to the Primaris Marines showing up.

Reason #23552151 that I suspect the closest thing Black Library has to an actual editor is the spellcheck function.
