Nyx's Imperial Agents

Recommended Posts

Ever since I got into 40k in the dusty old years of 7th edition (I know, I know not that long ago, shhhhhhh) I've loved the Inquisition.  I spent hours pouring over the Inquisition and Sisters of Battle digital codices, dreaming of the day when I could wield such models in my army.  My first army was Deathwatch, due to them being a brand new release, and so much "cooler" than normal space marines with their black ops nature and their Inquisition ties, and being much easier to collect than old metal Inquisition models haha.

When the ill-fated and short-lived Imperial Agents codex came out in 7th, I was extremely excited, I started collecting more and more parts of that book, like wyrdvane psykers, a valkyrie, Celestine, some metal sisters, only to have the rug pulled out by 8th.  I very quickly realized I needed to focus somewhere else, and tried Deathwatch again, but that magic was gone for some reason, so I got into Imperial Knights, got a classic loyal 32, developed a fledgling guard army, got some Grey Knights, started primaris Iron Hands, and tried to just....piece it all together with a head narrative.  Which has worked in a fashion since then, but I've never quite been excited about 40k as I was in those early days looking at that Inquisition book, and quite frankly, my armies have never really coalesced as I'd hoped, the only really painted forces I have being those I've been forced to by my commitments to play in the ATC each year lol.

Skip to today, and I am more excited than I've been since those days to actually play and field a 40k army.  I know, I know, the book isn't amazing, this is gone, that is gone.  I get it, it's not perfect, I would have liked very much to keep my daemonhosts, and my jokaeros, and be able to field stormtroopers in valkyries, and maybe someday, we will be able to.  But for now, I will be a giddy school girl and field some black ops marines, some space police, some navy boys, some strangely fanatical sisters, and most importantly, the all-powerful and ends-justify-the-means-always Inquisition overlords. :3

So, I've been working on painting up and organizing a lot of my disparate Agents models I've collected in the last 7-8 years, and it's high time we got this mission started!  I'll be posting work in progress models and painting progress here in the future, but to start, here's some of what I've gotten fully painted in the last few weeks, and a few samples of what's currently on the table to speak.

I painted Coteaz several years ago, but updated a couple small things, mainly the way I currently paint purity seals.  I need to get him put onto a larger base, just waiting to see what his new base size is, and I'll need to decide on what to use as his bird token because I'll fall to chaos before I use his new model lol.

The next few images are a few Inquisitorial acolytes um henchmen um agents.  I have plans for more later from many different sources, and some of these might eventually be replaced, but these are the start, and there are more that are awaiting paint.

Thank you!  That means a lot.

I've enjoyed your models a lot too!

This is today's effort, the first three veterans in my melee kill team.  Building a 4 thunder hammer, 4 shield, sergeant, and blackshield unit for some melee mess-up-ery.  Never really built any melee guys in my end of 7th/early 8th days lol, no need for random melee marines in such a shooting game.

The forces called by the Holy Ordos continue to muster!!  99% done with my 10 strong melee Deathwatch squad, only needing the last power weapon for my 4th shield bearer (and the eagle-eyed and previous-edition-rules-conscious among you might guess of what type it will be), and a tactical pouch bit I just realized I left off the blackshield, whoopsie.  I'm gonna go for an all transfer shoulder pad look, and no first founding chapters, so I've used blank extra tactical shoulders.

Next up on the planning and painting station, while I wait for some Arbites and the whole, you know, actual codex release , is some Sisters and friend!

I love both the old and the new sculpts of Sisters, but it seems very fitting, in the spiritual successor to the Witch Hunters codex, to use the classic sculpts, and I have some lying around from when I first got into 40k.  Going for a brass armor though the light makes it more yellow than it is lol, and my current thought is a dark teal for cloth.

Next up is what will be one of my Priests, truly would be a crime not to use such a classic sculpt, even if his wargear isn't exact.

Thank you!  I love a good use of old models! :D  And yeah, it's going to look amazing when I get back to them lol.

I've played a few games recently and got some good experience in.

----

List 1

Eversor Assassin
Inquisitor w/ Clandestine Operation w/ Subductors 1

Inquisitor Draxus w/ Subductors 2

Navigator w/ Combat Landers w/ Navy Breachers 1

Rogue Trader Entourage w/ Fleetmaster w/ Navy Breachers 2

Vindicare Assassin

Watch Master w/ Deathwatch Kill Team

Voidsmen-at-Arms 3

Imperial Rhino 1

Imperial Rhino 2

Imperial Rhino 3

Canis Rex

Played in a small 3 round RTT with this list, learned some good lessons with the army.  Voidsmen in deep strike for objectives, kept Canis in reserves and remembered to rapid ingress him on the third round lol instead of just bringing him on.  Swapped out the Vindicare for the Calldius each game, just was more useful for the matchups.

Played against Tau in round 1, ewww that sucked lol.  He had the tanks with the missiles and 3 riptides, so I just....played a game and lost lol.  Round 2 was against a close friend and Thousand Sons, and was a much more interesting game, if I'd remembered to bring my Culexus with me they would have been brought in, but it was a much closer loss.  Round 3 I played against new Blood Angels, managed to get a win, played much better this game and was able to get Canis into a full death company squad with Lemartes and wipe them all out in shooting and melee, everything else supported the strategy of playing the mission very well this time.

Also, changed my list slightly for a game last night, that I'll try some more.

I played this slightly better tactics wise, but I don't know if I needed 3 assassins at the same time.  I missed having the versatility of the Voidsmen squads deepstriking, that was incredibly useful.  The priest was literally I had 40 points spare so it was that or combat landers, and without them being attached to a unit it literally did nothing but sit on home all game haha.  This game I had Coteaz and his unit sitting on home at first, then moving forward as needed.  Played against Space Wolves and managed to kill Bjorn, a venerable Dread, a 6 wolf squad with 2 characters, and a Lancer, but slowly lost on primary losing 64-84.

Next list I'm going to try will involve 2 Immolators with melta and two melta loaded up Sisters squads, basically swapped for the Deathwatch blob.

Nice. Interesting to see them against a bunch of different armies- I'm resting my Inquisition at the moment because my gaming buddy is focused on practicing with his Orks and shooting against Orks with mainly shotguns and lasguns is a...losing proposition, so I've been rotating in my other armies (Necrons, SM/DA, Knights). I've found that the Combat Lander Voidsmen are really useful in the army, giving some much needed mobile action units.

Yeah, I can see Orks being a tough matchup, unfortunately we don't really have anyone locally that plays them a lot, so practice against them is pretty sparse.

I think Combat Lander Voidsmen are one of the first things I will add to most lists going forward, except in extreme circumstances, just way too useful not to bring.  I have also found Subductors to be extremely useful in being objective holders, they aren't immune to damage, but are a bit more easily survivable than Breachers, which are also wonderful but in slightly different ways.

Last night I tried a ...... unique list lol.  Similar to what I've brought before, but no Knight or Deathwatch.  Instead, I brought a Warhound with 2 turbolaser destructors.  The rest of my list was the Voidsment block, 2 Breachers with Rogue Traders, 2 Subductors one with a Priest, an Assassin (I used a Culexus but in hindsight should have used a Callidus) and a Navigator.  Definitely felt the lack of meat in my list, but still managed to get a 79-46 win.  Played against Eldar, with an Avatar, 3 Fire Prisms, 10 Wraithguard with the big guns, 5 Wraithblades with axes, a Guardian squad, and Farseer/Warlock support.  Managed to get first turn which was an incredible boon, as I was able to take out a Fire Prism.  I was able to threaten multiple things with the Warhound each turn, so while my opponent did use Phantasm each turn, I was never without something to shoot at.

I seriously had fun with the big thing, and while I'm not sold on it for competitive play yet, I want to try it with both 2 plasma arms and 2 flamer arms too.

Tomorrow night I am going to try a list involving 2 melta heavy Sisters squads, each in an immolator, along with 3 Moiraxes, each with 2 graviton pulsars.  I'm hoping the anti-vehicle 2+ will put even wounds through each turn to handle some armor, and that the melta will help, along with the ignores cover from the immolators.

Will probably be playing against Death Guard, so I'll let you know how it goes!
